Is there a rule of thumb for how many lbs of weight reduction is equivalent to adding 1 hp?

10Lbs per 1hp.

Remove 1lb from wheel/tire combo that's like removing 10lbs from the car.

I've been told the 10x unsprung weight number was a myth and that it is closer to 3 or 4x. Anyone have any stats to back it up?

I can assure you I shed about 7 or 8 lbs per wheel/tire combo, so about 30 lbs of unsprung weight, and though there may be a slight difference, it's nothing like 30HP.
