Car feeling weird after first service??? Is it me??
So I'm feeling a little uneasy, I took my car in yesterday for service. It's first oil change was done and my SA mentioned some "software updates", something about the heated mirrors along with some DME updates. So I got it back after half a day and at first I didn't notice anything different, however today I drove a little spirited and the throttle felt weird like i had to press it harder than before. Also there was a pop from the exhaust when i barely it revved it and now it seems to sound lower and doesn't come on as often. Is this just my imagination or has someone else on here with the N55 felt the same?? Looking for some input please!

You unfortunately received the new software update that kills low end torque.
refer to this post for more info: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=375502 I would complain to BMW immediately |

YuP! What you describe is exactly how I flet about my SW update on my N54. All the N55 guys here seem to love the new SW update. Yours is the first post I have read being negative. Perhaps your car just needs to adapt. That takes a few hundred miles. I suspect the latest SW from BMW is just as bad (laggy) as it is for the N54. I hated the new lag so much I ended up have my car flash/tuned over here. Here is a MEGA thread on this problem over at the e90 forum. It is mostly N54's though. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...0#post10553820 Dackel |

Thanks for the responses guys, I went through those threads before but those are mostly for N54 owners. This just really sucks, I hope it does adapt cause it really doesn't feel the same. I feel like I'm being forced to buy the PPK after this.

Well... at least the SW only(flash) PPK is cheap now at $500 I think. IF you want the hardware(extra radiator, HD rad fan, ect) it much more. |

I left a message for my friend at the parts counter at my local dealer to see what kind of pricing he can get me. Why does BMW do this? I drove it again and it just feels like it lost its pep. I'm so disappointed i just feel like selling it.

I remembered the wrong price. It was(is) $575... I got this email from Tischer last week: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?action=AccessoryCatalog&siteid=214672&ca talogid=4462&categoryid=138713&subcat1=138716&star trow=26 It is a shame that BMW is doing this too us. I think they should atleast ASK US if they "detune" our cars. It is almost criminal - if you ask me. OP - if you can't talk your dealer (or Regional Service Manager from BMW NA) to give you the PPK SW... then your only choice would be getting a tune. You should consider Giac or Cobb or the like. Dackel PS: I am sure most dealers could match this "service dept" price from Tischer. I am on their mailing list bc that is teh closest dealer to my US address - even though I live in Germany! lol |

About six months ago there was a guy here from India that got the SW flash from BMW India for free. I forget what his issue was... but the dealer screwed up and wanted to "please him".. so he got the PPK SW for free. Or maybe it was the entire PPK? I Seem to remember smoething about over heating issues with his car. Anyway... You should make yourself known to your dealerships service manager (not the SA) and hopefully they will fix your car's performance back to stock. It is too bad we just can't set our car's interanl clock back a few days before the SW update... like we can with our PC's! Dack |

Yeah my guy at the dealer said it's $699 for the update and it comes to $850 installed. Seems kinda of high.

There's no gaurantee that IF you do purchase the PPK it will make your car feel the same as the one you originally bought. I would love to hear what your service Manager is willing to do in this case to make you happy. Please keep us updated

In my car it felt like a -30 Hp decrease when I got the BMW's latest SW update. That is what it felt like to my BUTT Dyno! The added lag was also a big let down. Its just like you described... you have to press down on the throttle MUCH MORE to get the same level of accel as before. Before 1/4 throttle and post SW update 2/3rds throttle. When I got my flash tune from MS Tuning (over here in DE) even before we drove away... when the engine started... I could tell(hear) my old N54 baby was BACK! There is something in BMW's latest SW that really makes the engine idle smoother and lower (600 rpms instead of 800 or so) but all teh injector noise is gone. But for me the deal breaker is all that power and snapy throttle respone is also gone(gutted)! I am happy I went with a SW flash tune. Not a single problem in 20K kms of driving. |

Oh thanks for that all that info, i really didn't find injectors noisy. Is the wastegate what makes the pop sound when you rev it? It doesn't do that anymore either. I will contact my SA and see what we can do I don't know how long i can take is.

Given the N55 uses completely different injectors to the N54 I doubt that they are involved in this:

Do you have a DCT? On my N54 I have a 6MT... and I only hear that matalic metal clicking/rattle on part throttle and only when driving next to a wall or guardrail, under part throttle. Here is a pdf explaining how this noise is normal. I never hear a "pop" noise. I know on the new M5 is kind of "farts" on WOT when it shifts - that is normal too. |
