Fresh out the kitchen, 135i picked up yesterday!
Hey guys I have been lurking on these forums for about a month now, but yesterday I finally took delivery of my new 135i. Alpine white on coral red with aluminum trim, sports package and navi and 6MT of course! I freakin love this car, so fun to drive and even though NYC roads are as good as cobble stones, the ride isn't too bad, probably worse because of the very stiff run-flats! Other then that I fell in love with the new i-drive/navi system and overall its a great car! Don't really know what the future plans are but definitely to get rid of the chrome front grills and change those corona rings to a nice bright white...nothing too crazy (yet ).
Hope that there will be some nice events this summer for us bimmer dudes on the east coast, maybe some meets here and there! Question: I didnt get the tire-warranty package yet, I am debating on which way to go with it..I am going to call and find out how much it costs and then weigh my options, maybe its better to just get a different set of wheels and regular tires on them? Car is leased and I don't want to dispose of the run flats just to end up paying for them at lease end! Any suggestions would be helpful! PS: I will post some pics later today! -Arseny |

Personally, I would swap out the run craps with real performance rubber, then at or close to turn in put the craptastic rubber back on. No doubt you are going to go through a set of tires before turn in so take advantage of it sooner rather than later.

I was told that to take run flats off a tire, they have to cut them off...is that true?
If it isnt, then I rather pickup a set of decent rubber and keep the runcraps in my basement until I have to turn in the car...that would be more logical and cheaper in my opinion? |

Ye I think its a financially and just overall better decision to ditch the RFT and pickup new tires with warranty from tire rack and not get the tire/wheel protection from BMW.
Question, which size do you guys recommend when swapping out the RFTs? 225F 255R? Thanks! |

I would use the RFTs until they wear out. There inst really a point in getting new tires when you already have new ones. I know the run flats don't handle and ride as well but its not necessary to replace them so fast when they are new. They wear pretty fast too. You should chill out and wait till they wear or get punctured.

I received a package from BMW explaining what is acceptable for returning a leased vehicle when leasing through BMW. Dings smaller than 2 inches are acceptable. Few small stains is also acceptable, Few rock chips are allowable on the front end. As for the tires it said they need to be matching tires on all 4 corners with thread of 1/8th an inch. It didn't say they need to be same manufacturer and type.
You just leased the car for 3 years, don't worry about anything until your last 6 months. Just go out and enjoy the freaking beast. |

Congrats ... i would def go with buying new tires soon and putting the RFT on the side for lease turn in. They will have all their tread life left and you wont have to worry about BMW bangin you for new tires when you turn the car in. On the bonus side you get new tires that perform better. Its either pay now or pay later. Ive leased a few cars and they always need new tires by that time anyways .

sid33 thanks for the heads up, I think I am going to go that route, take off the RFTs and throw on some nice performance tires and just enjoy the car and when the lease is coming to a close, swap on the RFTs and be walk away!
Any recommendations on tires, I have been reading about direzza Z1, yoko S.drive and the sumitomo HTR ZIII's...any other opinons? I am not a track guy, just daily spirited driving, but I want a tire that will last as well! Any help is appreciated!
