225/45/17 front and 245/40/17 rear. It might be close to the fenders depending which tire brand you choose. You could also consider using the 17x8" ET40 rim on the front.

The Toyos and NT01s will run wide, max may be a 235/40. Otherwise, on most street tires, you can run a 245/40 17 with some camber. |

Using the LTW5 17x8.5, what is the max width R compound tire I can fit for a square setup?
My 135i has camber plates, and probably looking at Swift R spec springs and Koni Sport dampers soon.

As much as I like a square setup for rotation, with enough camber and wide rubbers up front, I'd almost prefer to run staggered and not sacrifice rubber in the rear considering how much power this car puts down. |

Yeah, on some more true-to-size summers, you may be able to get away with 245/40 all around on a 17x8, ET40. Even without adding a bit of camber.
Once when you are into the meatier tires though, they'll probably rub under heavy compression. |

What did you end up going with?

I can run 245s square on my 135i with the LTW5s. No rubbing. Suspension is lowered with swift springs and I have Dinan plates up front along with the M3 arms. I run -2.5 camber in the front and rear. Tires are Michelin Pilot Super Sports. I've run autocross and track days with this and have not had any problems. This year I'm going to run Apex ARC8s 18s 235s front /255 rear with Hancook RS3s.

Another crazy scenario:
In the interest of saving a few buck on wheels, would a Toyo R888 or other R compound 225/45R17 square setup be adequate for the track on a lightly modded 135i (see signature)? The idea is that my winter wheel setup (OEM BMW style 73, 17x7 ET47 wheels) is noticeably lighter than my style 261 wheels, and R compound adherence would compensate for slightly skinnier tires in the back. My concern is putting power down in the rear (135i with Quaife LSD). The diameter size of the 225/45R17 R888 is 0.1" smaller than my current rear Re-11 255/35R18 tires. The width would be about 0.5" narrower.

Yeah, I changed my mind on that idea. Will stick with stock rims for now (style 261), and probably next year, Ill get a set of wider Apex EC-7/Arc-8, VMR V810, or Forgestar F14's rims with new rubber.

I have 8.5 17's with a et40 i tested fitted a 225/45 tire up front and they fit with no issues on stock suspension. I'm still trying to figure out whats the most I can run on the rear I'm trying to run a 265 but without any camber delete or fender work I'm not sure if i can fit it with from what I've been reading.
