Great except the audio in car was terrible and then made worse by playing music over it.

Cool thanks Scott.

Very positive review from Chris. Yeah shame about the interior noise.

Notice his comment about throttle response.....he keeps focusing on the "top of the rpm range" being good, but no mention of the lower range. Sorry, I just don't see that response being NA like. That will be the real test for me.

Cheers,

How? Chris Harris is one of the most critical journalists out there. He usually states it as it is, and with his huge knowledge of cars, this kind of praise means we should expect something really special.

It's a confirmation that this car isn't just a repackaged E92.

Wait he's driving a Merc in the beginning? I hope the car feel more planted. 135i did not feel as planted as the 350z for me. If Chris says its good I have confidence it will.

Very cool.

I thought the engine sound was pretty cool in a couple spots too.

Well, you can forget all that. The new car is fitted with a turbocharged straight six. Turbocharging? In an M car? That’s like putting gravy on an ice cream.

This is encouraging news from a credible source! Seems to confirm that M engineers have done something to sustain the power band in the upper rev range.

Too bad in the in car audio is so poor. I couldn't make out what he was saying about the steering (I think he was mostly pleased with it).

So when does BMW do the next reveal on 1M? Curious to see what that fender vent actually looks like.

He said 'feels pretty much normally aspirated UP to the top end'

This is a very good sign!

I got the impression it was similar to M3 steering. He seemed to be sort of mildly complaining that it was heavy, if I could interpret his facial expressions and hand gestures accurately. Then he seemed to sort of make peace with it and decide it WAS pretty good.

I think he was complaining about the steering wheel being too thick. I loved the thick steering wheel on my Z4MC.

I do believe his excitement at the end of the video was the real deal, and said a lot...

The way I've come to view the car is that it will not be perfect, but will be awesome. Can't wait...

Actually, for the correct answer refer to these two posts.

Chris Harris. Easily one of the best journalists out there. He can describe a car with better detail and relativity than anybody else imo. He knows his shit; all the specs, ins and outs of any car, old and new. I wish Autocar and Evo would post more vids with him instead of Steve Sutcliffe (though Steve is right behind Chris in terms of awesomeness and credibility, he just lacks Chris's articulation).
