Looking at getting a 1er...
Hi guys, I've been thinking about getting myself a 130i hatch for a little while now, I've been keeping an eye on 1addicts to try and get up to speed with whats out there & what to expect and I have a few questions.
What parts are common to the hatch and coupe? e.g. suspension bits - I know e90/2 M3 parts can be swapped to a E82, but will they also fit a E87? I've also read that the Ohlins coilover setup is a really nice upgrade and that the E82 guys get the kit for the E90/2, will this also fit the E87? Are there any other common parts of note? Also, is there anything specific to the 130 that should have been addressed/checked? Like the HPFP in the DI engines? Any other info or tips would be greatly appreciated. (Also if anyone knows of someone wanting to sell a graphite, blue or white manual 130i for a good price I'd appreciate a prod in their direction! ) Nathan |

I should add I’m not new to bimmers (I’ve had an E36 and a couple of E30’s in the past) but never a 1er. Might as well whore a few pics of my current e30 :

from my research? no, HPFP is a 135 issue. anything (suspension wise) that can fit in another 1er, fits the E87. this also includes heaps of the E92 stuff like you've said.
i'm looking at getting a set of the ohlins RnT for my 130i |

And I mentioned that the HPFP is an issue for the direct injection engines! Are the later model n52's direct injection too, or do they still just stick with the Valvetronic and not DI? |

The N52 is not DI. It is simply a beautiful motor. The sound is uncontaminated by FI, power is more than adequate, fuel consumption is good, and I haven't heard of any real problems. I know that progress has demanded the new blown 4's, but for me the N52 is the final, ultimate expression of the BMW NA straight 6.

The HPFP issue cannot be ignored, even with the N52 engine. Please do some serious investigation on the US forums about HPFP, the smell resulting from removing cats and compromising your warranty by changing any OEM part. Also the new BMW dealership AI diagnostics that can tell if you have considered a flash tune (even if you do not actually purchase one).
With warranty issues, even when your car is well outside warranty period, please carefully think about any change. It might compromise your warranty. Of your HPFP.

i mean, i understand that direct injection is when it's injected directly into the cylinder chamber... i wish it were ITB's instead of valvetronic though... such a nice sound wiki tells me new valvetronic engines also use DI. just not the N52, no. |

Hehe, i just asked some similar questions in the one thread below.
also in the same boat, looking for a 130i.. i thought the 2007 face lift came with "efficient dynamics" marketing , and there are some reports of the N52 including Direct Injection as part of the fuel saving campaign.. There was also start/stop engine thing, which i haven't heard any N52's having. Anyway, I couldn't find any info on wiki/redbook that actually confirmed any of this however. its hard finding hard facts about the 130i as its all been overtaken by 135i info. |

I have to say, your E30 looks awesome!
I've been looking at getting myself a 325i or 325iS....just not many on the market and they're all a bit tired looking. We used to have one in the family (pre-facelift) way before I could drive |
