oil seals check ?

Hey fellas,

Do we need to, can we, should we check oil seal leaks.

I know about the "oil leak around oil filter housing" and that looks good, but other than that is there anything else I am able to check.

I'll be doing a spark plug change soon, so is that a good time to check the internals and "what" am I looking for

TIA

Good question. Not an expert here but when you change plugs, if no evidence of oil, that's a very good sign.

tnx man,

I have an cheat/check sheet for my old Porsche,
has a reminder of things to check and do at specific intervals
I kinda transposed it for the BM,
on that list was "check oil seals"

Common leaks are the oil filter housing gasket, valve cover gasket, and oil pan gasket. If you find oil on the ground under your car, start with the stuff on the top of the engine, then work your way down. The OFHG is the easiest, then the valve cover gasket, then the oil pan gasket.

I don't know that front or rear seals are known for leaking as much as those gaskets. I haven't seen mine leaking but also haven't specifically looked.

You won't find too much oil on the ground with the belly pan . Good idea to take it off and inspect every once in a while

That's true! I only found my oil pan gasket leak while I was under the car with the pan off to do headers. Taking the pan off periodically to look under the motor is a great suggestion.
