Carbon fiber wrapped interior trims (3M di-noc vinyl)

Wrapped my wood trims today using 3M di-noc vinyl

I think it turned out good. I hated the wood so much!

Removing the trims with proper tools: 5 minutes or less

Removing the center console: 20 minutes (followed this thread: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=213833 ) I had to improvise a bit as this DIY is for cars without ashtray, so I had to struggle with connectors. I also discovered 2 connectors behind the cover that's facing the rear seats, that were connected to nothing?!!

Cleaning the trims with alcohol and applying the vinyl took maybe 2-3 hours. It was my first time with vinyl so it took me quite a while to figure it out. The door handles were the most tricky part because of the curvature. The center console trim also required attention to make sure all the lines would line up perfectly.

Installing back the trims took 2 minutes and the center console, maybe 30 minutes. I had a bit of issue installing it back properly.

Connectors not connected? Can it be for the Nav maybe?

Looks great though! The work paid of!

Oh, you are right. They must be for iDrive equipped cars. I guess they are all pre-wired for it.

Honestly, it is all worth it. Doesn't take that long, doesn't take much skills either and geting rid of the wood is priceless.

All you need is a few basic tools, a brand new rasor blade and a heat gun. I ordered 1'x4' and I'm left with two small pieces of 6"x8". So, cut carefully. I suggest you leave at least 1" extra around the pieces to easily lift and pull after heating to get a smooth surface. Use patience, don't rush things.

Thats right, you had the woodpanel. Its great if you like the late 80ies. But I understand you on getting rid of it. =)

Iw got the rugged alu-look. It looks nice, but im having a lot of exterior changed to CF to so I would like it to match all around.

Thanks for the tips!

Oh! I can probably not do it... Because of the "bumby" texture on the trim... darn it....

You are right, it will not work over the textured aluminium trim. I'm sure you can trade and even make money out of a trade like this.

Does anyone know, is there any trick to removing the i-Drive knob, or is it just grab tight and pull up?

Looks amazing...professional especially the way you lined up the textures on the center console and ashtray lid.

Any other tips? By chance did you do a DIY procedure recording while you did this?

Thanks!

Sorry, don't really have any tips or DIY, it's pretty straightforward. Thing you always need to remember your self is that di-noc when heated up, will be super soft, so you will be able to remove any defect by heating and stretching it.

Look at di-noc DIY on youtube, you'll see people wrap easily some very complex pieces.

How can you get all the pieces of the center console to line up just so ? Cover everything with one big piece and cut them at the same time around the edges ? I been watching YouTube vids everywhere trying to figure this out but still no luck yet :/

Exactly, apply one big piece over the center console, then cut each piece leaving equal part of vinyl on both side and heat the edges and pull the vinyl to it covers completely the edges.

I must admit that the cover of the ashtray is not perfect, there was not enough vinyl to cover completely the edges. But you don't notice it when it's closed. I guess if it was covering light wood or light color, it would be noticeable though.
