Smile 2011 SGM DCT 135i on Order!!!

Hi peeps

Ive been browsing through these forums alot for the last month or so and I have finally decided to go ahead with the purchase! Ended up putting an order in for the 2011 135i with the following options:

Space Grey Metallic Paint
Dual Clutch Transmission
Coral Red
Poplar Wood
M Sport Package
Professional Nav
Harmon Kardon Upgraded Stereo
Comfort Access

So hopefully it turns out to be a great car, had a big smile after the test drive, it just feels like an awesome all round package. Coming from a Surpa I think ill have to get use to it dieing in the top end, but response wise, 1300 rpm max torque... Pretty hard to top that!

So in 4-5 months time ill add some pics haha...

Good choice. I am sure you will love the car. Envy your DCT. It will be in my next M1...

Your car is MY11 so it comes with the N55 single turbo engine doesn't it? That means max torque is on tap from 1200rpm

Anyway excellent choice! Now the wait...it feels worse than having a terminal illness

Cheers guys, haha true! Max torque from just above idle, soo crazy... To be honest, I was still unsure if I should of gone with the DCT or the Manual. However times are changing and I should move on. Yeah can't wait for the M1, hopefully ill be able to switch over when that comes out if its not overly expensive!

Just wondernig if anyone from Australia has sourced official BMW Performance Parts from the US? After looking through these forums, I would love to get the CF interior trim ! Judging by the prices from BMW Aus, the prices are pretty excessive IMO. With the exchange prices looking good, I was considering possibly shipping them over from the US...

Welcome! Nice choice on colour, love how SGM looks, but I may be biased

I want the CF interior too, but $3500 is a bit much i think!

Only problem with getting the interior from the US is the cars are LHD over there, so won't work

If you find anything cheaper, let me know!

Yeah, hopefully all the HPFP issues are dealt with on the N55... hopefully! Micha3l thanks for the input, I didn't even think about that... It would suck to have ordered one from the US to find the CF ashtray doesnt actually fit!

However Im guessing the rear diffuser and blacked out grill would be interchangeable with the US models? Going by how expensive the CF interior is here (3.5k), im assuming the diffuser etc would be even worse? :O

135 Jie, in regards to your CF bits, possibly look at getting it from UK, same side of the road they are.

I got my iPhone cradle and Alu Pedals from them, about of half of what was quoted here.

mark.mace@oceanplymouth.bmw-net.co.uk

This is the parts guy at Ocean BMW and they've been pretty good to menso far.

Hope that helps.

Congrats and welcome to the forum.. I noticed that you have " M Sport package " listed as a option.. Is that not standard anymore on the 135i Coupe?

Cheers alik01, I will chase up some UK parts if they are cheap option! Yeah the M Sport package is still standard for the 135i, but BMW do list them seperately from the normal options list to make you feel like you get a better deal or something... It worked for me heh.

Great choice, and I think you'll be the first with a N55 and DCT.

The idea of a 135 with DCT is very appealing to me, but I do love my MT with SSK fitted.

Make sure you let us know what it's like when it eventually gets delivered. Until then, I suggest you ensure you have a good support group of friends and family during the wait you're going to need it!

Congrats! I was tossing up on whether to go DCT or manual as well - in the end I went with manual. Just couldn't pull the trigger on going auto... I'm sure the gearbox will be awesome though.

I've got a 50/50 chance of getting an N55 or N54 at this stage. I'm hoping I'll be able to grab an N54 but we'll see...

Excellent choice to go with DCT. If you're leasing or going to re-sale in a few years, the residual value will be higher.

Congrats on a great purchase, and yes, the 1,200RPM torque will be loooovely

Yeah, to be honest I am still unsure if I made the right choice with the DCT, I am still able to make changes before it goes into production in March... Like you say Taymaishu, im hoping the resale value will be higher with the DCT as I probably will upgrade in 2+ years.

Reading up these forums I am tempted with going for one of the flash tunes, but hesitant due to the warrenty. I suppose with the N55 nothing will be available for it, so ill be literally forced to keep it stock haha. Neways it should be enough to keep me going, 1,200 rpm max torque is going to be crazy responsive. When I took the N54 for a test drive it was responsive enough as it was, it always had that urgency, practically no lag at all!

Yeah the wait is going to be long, I try not to think about it... Also I dont have a strong support group of family and friends, all they do is ask me "you got your car yet?" and "WTF you spent that much on a car?".

I would go with DCT for sure. I have a manual 135 but had a crack at a DCT M3 on the track a while ago and thought it was fantastic. Of course manual is great fun but these DCT gearboxes are bloody good now. Not like the old SMG. That was a shocking transmission!

I'd say wait until 10,000kms until you want to do it. The reason is that anything that fails in that time (when the car is most susceptible to it), BMW will blame on a tune if they find it. It also gives you a chance to appreciate the pure engineering that's gone into the car without any post-market mods.

After that, go with the JB3 - invisible and dear lord it's a great bang-for-buck mod. Unfortunately the flashes for 125s are bloody expensive and yield hardly any horsepower change compared to the JB3 for 135.

Performance vs Fun - it's your pick with DCT vs Manual .

DCT will be faster, but with a manual - you'll be more connected with the car.

I would probably have gone with DCT if it was available, but now I have been driving the manual for a while (and made a point to learn heel-toe, and double clutching), I am not sure if I would like to give up the manual this easily.

DCT would probably be easier to sell, but manual you might get a good price if you found the right buyer because they are more rare.

Yeah, im yet to drive a car with DCT, but from what everyone is saying it should be a better performing car with the DCT

Concerning the JB3 and other flashes (Dinan, Vishnu) as they are mapped to US fuel, has anyone found any major problems running them on AUS models with the fuel we have? Or do they supply an Australian specific tune?
