Thumbs up 135i Race Car Project Thread - 1Addicts.com riding on board

Hi All -

I'm very excited to finally announce something we've had in the works now for months:

Total Lubricants USA and Nitto Tires are teaming up to have us
race the 135i in BMW Club Racing. The car will begin it's racing career in the H-Stock class with our veteran driver Ralph Warren pursuing class track records in the new car.

This will be our 3rd year working with Nitto Tires and our first venture with Total Lubricants. The car will be racing on the Nitto NT01 DOT-R competition tire and using Total race fluids.

We've been racing in BMW Club Racing since the 2004 season, winning numerous regional and national championships and setting over a dozen class track records. We currently campaign the Crevier BMW/Nitto Tire e46 M3, but are looking forward to taking on the challenge of being the pioneers for racing the BMW 135i.

1Addicts.com wil be among the other sponsors displayed on the car. Other sponsors will be named later as agreements are reached.

The car we'll start with is a 135i with nothing put Sport Package. We picked up the car from Crevier on Friday, April 25th. Judy Ray, who is also runs Driving Concepts driving and race schools, is an outstanding Client Advisor and long time BMW enthusiast. A great BMW family member to get a car from.

So here we go:

What's the first thing every person should do when they bring a new BMW home that night? We wouldn't know - we jacked it up, pulled the wheels off and pull out the front and rear brake pads so we could measure them and pass that on to brake pad vendors.

BTW, the car is beautiful underneath - best BMW I've had so far in that regard.

As usual, higher res in my photo gallery:

Thanks. This will be our most challenging race project to date, but there's no shortage of brain power and determination on the team. We'll definitely be interfacing quite a bit with the BMW aftermarket community to build the best stock class racer possible.

As we speak, the car is headed to Borla for an exhaust to be in their exhibit for the Bimmerfest event, and then it's off to the cage builder, Impact Engineering. They are the same shop that built up the e90 Diesels that BMW raced in the 25 Hours of Thunderhill.

scottn2retro, this is great news for the 1'ner community! Would you mind if I move this thread to the Track/Autocross/Dragstrip/Performance Driving sub-forum?

scottn2retro - are you going to weigh the interior bits that come out of the car? ; -)

Neat project - really looking forward to following along as you turn it into a real race car!

I'd like to keep it in the general forum for now and move it at some point down the road. A lot more people will see the thread here. I'll have Ralph do race reports in the Track forum.

Unfortunately, in stock class, there's not a whole lot we can take out, but I'll certainly try to weigh anything we do take out.

Harold at HP Autowerks in Santa Barbara has been doing a great job coordinating the exhaust work at Borla in Oxnard. He tells they are going to put an awesome exhaust on the car. Can't wait for people to see it at Bimmerfest and we hope to get some pics from Borla on the install process.

Awesome, Scott!! Looking forward to the progress, and glad to see you guys are building one up! Did you guys call Miguel from VelozDecals? I think he mentioned to me that "somebody from Cali called asking about 1Addicts decals". I assume that was you guys now.

If not, please let me know, and just let me know what size(s)/color you'd want, and we'll get them made up for you.

Question regarding those brake pads. It looks like the rear pads can be removed without removing the caliper, like a normal Brembo setup. Is that true, and also how are the front pads to remove/replace?

Wasn't me on the decals (but I have the file, so Modern Image in Huntington Beach can whatever I need).

The rear pads can slide out, but on the fronts, you gotta remove the caliper.

UPDATE: For anybody going to Bimmerfest on May 3rd, the car will be there in the Borla exhibit sporting a prototype Borla exhaust and a KW Suspension from RobiSpec.
