NOT removable............at least I can't figure out how to if they are.
I held the release tab at the base and extended them all the way up to a STOP point.........they go no further. Now...if anyone figures out how to do it, please let us know.

I finally figured out how to remove the rear seat headrests from my 135i.
1. Lower the back seats by releasing the latches in the trunk. They will probably only go down part way, until the headrests hit the back of the front seats. 2. Tip the front seats forward using the rear seat access latch at the top outside corner of each front seat. This will give you good access to get a better angle to pull out the rear seat headrests. 3. Pull out the headrests as far as they will go, then depress the button at the base of one side of each headrest and pull it out the rest of the way. I think I felt a final internal detent on the side of the headrest that does not have an external button. You need to overcome this last internal resistance on the side away from the button in order to pull the headrest all the way out. The original poster wanted to remove the rear headrests to improve visibility. I agree, but the main benefit to me is that without the headrests the rear seats will drop all the way down when you release the latches in the trunk. This lets you load larger objects without having to go around to the front and tip the front seats forward. Also, the car goes much faster without the extra weight of the headrests! |

If you have an interior color/material identical to one available in the 3 series, then you could try to see if the E91 (wagon) rear headrests fit in the 135. I'd be surprised if they didn't.
I had a 328xit loaner for a week and noticed the rear headrests were foldable via a side button.
