Streaming audio through Bluetooth?

Hey all. Just curious if it was possible to stream audio through the Bluetooth connection on these cars. My STI could stream both music on my iPhone as well as Pandora/Rdio. It was great because I didn't need to have it wired to the car but still got music I wanted. The iPod/iPhone connection cable is far too short for my liking and the connection location makes it very difficult to get to the phone if I need it while it's plugged it.

Is it possible? Thanks!

I think if you have Nav you can do it. I don't and I can't.
I really like it in my other car though.

I do have Nav. I tried to figure it out the other day and I couldn't. I may have to futz with it a bit more but if anyone knows how to do it please enlighten

Well I see you have a 2010. I know for 2013 it is possible to stream music through Bluetooth (I am sure because the sales guy told me it comes with BMW Bluetooth assist now and so I had to pay for the option because it's standard with premium package now) but I'm assuming the older models can't. The 2013s have basic Bluetooth standard now but the Bluetooth that comes with the assis is "enhanced Bluetooth" which you can stream. Personally the old school was good enough for me but sense they changed around the packages it comes with premium package now so I had to pay for it.

Check your idrive menu and see if BT feature is available, and it's very simple all you need is to enable the BT music function on menu once is connected you should be able to stream music via BT.

I have the Y cable but I was dumb enough to buy it from BMW and pay $70+ for it.

When you make phone calls, does it use the iphone mic, and the car speakers?

I have no one to call and no one ever calls

Yeah I am pretty sure it uses the car mic because everyone says they can still hear me clearly and the phone is usually in my pocket. I can still answer with Idrive and all that jazz. My iphone says connected to both BMW and I-Wave.

Oh I see. You already have the BMW hands free option, and you are using this device to add stereo (A2DP) music streaming...

I was thinking this might be a solution for those of us that don't have ay bluetooth at all -- to handle both calls *and* music.

There are a few such units out there, but they make you use their mic (the belkin solution I tried for a while comes to mind) and their mic is typically far worse than the iphone mic. And ugly.

Yeah this thing is just a good cheap solution for bluetooth music, sound quality is fine and it works. Just plain and simple and at 10 bucks you cant beat it.

Your car must be equipped with AD2P adaptor..

BMW stared to add this on MY11.. MY10 does not have it

I'm non-iDrive and got this installed. It wasn't cheap and had to be done professionally, but it's factory in terms of integration (steering wheel controls work, call/song info displays on head unit, hands-free calling, supports A2DP bluetooth streaming) ... even if I'm listening to a radio station and receive a call, it knows to mute.

Purchased and installed for $800.

I'll have to post a pic, because I don't know if this description will make sense...

They ran the wire up the driver's side door (along the windshield kinda) and the mic is discretely tucked into the headliner. If you lean forward and look directly up, you can see it at the interface of the windshield/roof headliner.

That ebay connector is just what I think most of us without NAV need. I ordered 2, for that price, can't beat it!!!!!
