Fender Rolling??

Hi guys,
I want to lower my 1er and get sime 19" RIMS. From everything I've read here I am sure I will need to roll my fenders. I've seen a few posting on this however I am not completely sure what it entails. Is it from the inside? Is there potential to damage the body? Can someone explain in a bit of detail which is needed? Will I need a professional etc? Any explaination I get from here may impact my decision on the RIMS and lowering.

thx!
M.

How far the wheels and tires poke out towards the fenders relates to whether you need to try to gain space by rolling your fenders. 19" wheels is not the issue but it is hard to find any wheels with the high offsets required on our cars to keep the wheels tucked in away from the fenders.

If your wheels rub your fenders slightly then you can often get the wheels to "fit" by decreasing or eliminating the lip around the inside bottom of the fenders. Rolling involves flattening that lip. When you try to bend metal you can crack paint. Also rolling tends to make your fenders look a little bent. Sounds like you should leave it to a professional unless you can't find one.

FYI. Fender rolling isn't a big deal. A shop can do it in an afternoon. I had it done when i bought some 18" rims with a high offset.

My advice; get the rims first. If the tires rub, get an alignment and ask for some negative camber on the offending wheels. If they still rub, roll the fenders. Will probably run you $50-100 per wheel.

I am doing more for the looks, want to make the 1er look a little more aggressive. Not to mention no one really sits in the car with me so rubbing in relation to added weight is not a issue.

I just put miro mo1 19x8.5 35 mm offset with 225/35/19 all around. Everybody will say this is too aggressive but they look great. The rear is flush and didn't need rolling. The front wheels stick out about 1/4 inch. I only rolled the front and made the fender flare out a bit and now they look flush. A wider tire would've definatly rubbed all around. Tires are barely even stretched. Looks great. I know if I drop it it will rub but I don't plan to. I can stick 1 finger between tire and fender. Last night we were 3 adults and no rub. I'm in it for the looks not racing.

I will take pics and post up tonight. These wheels look a lot nicer in person. The color is like a dark shiny silver. I got a great deal on them. Pretty sure no one can match the price.

M,

This is what is what it looks like when fender rolling is being done. I do recommend finding a skilled professional before doing any kind of fender rolling. This can become a hit or miss situation of damaging your fender.

First off, i took this pic off a tire fitment book from sears. This is what they recomend to stay the same size as stock tires. Oh yeah i didnt have time to wash the car or take some good pics. Just did it as fast as i could.

At 45mm rear you should be able to pull off 245/35/19 with 8.5 wide. I got a great deal with my rims and the semi stretched look does not bother me because the wheel and tire is still flush in the rear. If you do a drop you may have to go with 235. Buy a higher offset. For the rear if you want to max out tire width.

Hi I need some advise.

I drive a 130i coupe. I have 18" X 8" (Offset 34) OZ Ultraleggera all round. I am using Yokohama S Drives 225/40 all round but I am hoping to get the rears to come out more so its more flushed (the fronts are flushed 100%). If I am to go with 5mm spacers will it rub? Should I just go with a 245/40 tires? If so, how much more will the tires stick out in terms of mm?

Please advise,
Thanks & Regards

On the same rim, 245/40 tyres will stick out 10mm more laterally and 8mm vertically compared with a 225/40 tyre, assuming the same model of tyre (profile of the tyre varies from manufacturer to manufacturer and model to model). 245/35 will stick out 10mm more laterally and 4mm less vertically.

Hi, thanks so much for replying. My tires are currently Yokohama S Drives. Do you think it will look weird using 245/40 on the rears and 225/40 on fronts with square wheel setup? What I mean is will the tires on the rear look like there is more rubber wrapping over the wheel rims as compared to the front? I don't know if 245/35 is available for the S Drives, will check...

Why wouldnt you go with a 245/35? The 40 is mich taller.

Also if you get a tire like the ps2's that have a curved side wall it will fit better.
