Rusty rear wheel hubs
Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with the unsightly rust on the 135 rear hubs. ard to imagine that they cannot make them with an alloy that won't rust.
Can they be cleaned or painted? Also I am planning to put non-runflats on the stock M sport wheels probably Hankook Ventis V-12's. It is harder to get the 215/40-18 in Canada than the 225/40-18. Any advantage or disadvantage putting 225's on the 7.5 in front wheels with the 245's on the rear? It would create a small diameter difference front to rear? What about understeer? Thanks |

Use a wire brush to clean them up and lightly apply some anti-seize compound. You may try painting them, but I don't think that it will hold up and if to thick it could cause a very tight fit.
Just go with 225/40F and 255/35R tires. I would try to keep the tire diameters the same. Those wider tires will fit the stock 7.5/8.5" rims ok, even though they are not ideal. I am running Conti DWS all seasons in the above sizes on the stock rims and they fit and function fine. I want a better handling tire for weather other than winter so I am going with another set of wheels and summer performance tires. Starting fresh, I will get 8/9" wheel widths put on 225/40F and 255/35R tires. That is the ideal setup, although as I indicated the stock width wheels also work. Bottom line is if you follow these recommendations, I think you will be pleased with the results. |
