1M vs E90 M3 at Blytheville Tri-State National Tour this month
I am starting to size things up in Blytheville in late October.
We are going to have a full class in A Stock. Asher is going to get in later to give us 5. So the field looks like this: DeYoung, Tom (E Stock driver co-driving with rich, He was roughly mid pack at Blytheville on pax at the Summer Nationals ) E90 M3 Emmert, Kerry (won big lost big all over the damn place) 1M Fisher, Edward (No national results, mid packer at the regional level) Vett Wiese, Richard (pretty sure Rich has trophied at nationals) E90 M3 Plus Asher Wunderl in my car (2 trophies from nationals) 1M There are is at least one, maybe two, good data points in that field. 1st Asher and Rich are drivers that have placed in the top 5 in a class at nationals. The e90 M3 and my 1M are of about equal prep. The feeling I get from talking to and reading the forums is that the e46 and e9x M3’s will move to F stock to try and run down the 2007 Shelby Mustangs. I think the M3’s will bring some much needed life to that class and I the SEB will move them. Selfishly, I want the 1M to move to F Stock too. Matt was 3.3 back of the winning Vett in A Stock this year and I just don’t see the car being able to run them down. Now, I do think the car can trophy in A stock with a good driver but will be a couple of seconds off the winner (Matt was right there). There will be good data here to figure out which M car has an advantage, if any. The E46 will not be as fast at an E90 M3 on any course, IMO. I think Rich has proved that campaigning his this year in the Saint Louis region. Now, I have driven an E90 M3 on an autocross course and thought it was a heavy dog crap, but watching Rich makes me feel like the car can be fast. As fast as a 1M? Yes, I think it is. Now, my car has never had a day after the stock setup was pulled off that I thought it was really working. I will put down 10 runs sorting the car in the Evo School and use 12 pass rears and new fronts for the event. I am going to pull the H&R front sway and go back to the softer e93 front sway bar. We are going to see. Rich has probably got at least 70 to 80 passes in his car this year and Asher has about 15 in mine. I have about 70 in mine but feel like there is going to be a breakout event in the car at some point and this is it. Hopefully we will run in the same heat at the f stock car. Here is the e90 m3 in action. Most autocross video looks slow, this does not.

I am ready to bump heads with the M3 to see. Rich is a great driver and Asher just missed winning B stock at nationals in 2007 in a field of about 60, finished 4th.
The M3 has done really well in saint louis this year, which is a region with some really good driver. They average 125 or so an event and Rich has won top PAX at the 1st of the year.

Sadly, even if the 1M was pushed to F-Stock they might have us for lunch. I autocross in the neighborhood of Daddio. Prolly two seconds back on a one minute course. Don Slevin runs locally, and had me by .691 (FWIW, Daddio was in front of Don at Nationals by .733 and Daddio was 1.132 behind the winner). Becareful what you wish for.
I still need to learn the KWs better. I could go to A Street Prepared, too. LOL The M3 will prolly be too heavy, too. Granted the Mustang isn't light, either, so I could be wrong. I'd love to try an M3 in F Stock (I'll bring the tires and wheels!).

I am having a hell of a time finding a co-driver for this event, so the 1m and m3 will have some heat in the tires to play on equal ground.

Looks like Jeremy foley (jflo) is going to co drive with me. That is pretty exciting. He is one of the best drivers in SCCA autox and there are no big hills to go off of like at pikes peak, lol!

Heading out in the morning. 12 wheels, 2 sway bars, evo school to tune the car, tons of race keeper data and pretty good drivers in the class.
i will post pics over on www.Facebook.com/thatsrightracing Hoping to win some tires. The class pays two tires to the winner and $1,000 cash to the over all winner, which will be something like a honda or other really lite weight.

Car worked well. Had some issues with getting power down. We are making adjustments.
The front end is now sorted.

Wait till i get the video of my fast run up. I lost control of the car and saved the spin and got lucky to be pointed straight at the next element. I slid sideways past a wallom.
The 1M is faster than the M3. Rich had a more sorted car on about 6k worth of shocks vs my d/a koni's. Jeremy and rich are probably of about equal talent level. The m3 was faster from the line but the 1m just crushed the slaloms. It was cold. I don't know how this would have worked on a 20 degree hotter day. No need to move the 1m to f stock.
