msegal - doesn't it have to be "turned on" in software ? I've been quoted US$1000 for kit and install. I figure i could do the install myself but the software part would probably be impossible to arrange and probably cost US$999 :-)

msegal, can you post any distinct information about the part number? That's definitely something I'd love to get done in the future, although $1900 is kind of steep.
Still, I have a feeling when I call my dealer they're going to have no clue what I'm talking about. |

I have been using the Parrot Drive Blue unit that simply plugs into the cigarette lighter and voila! It has a speaker and microphone built and works great. I can use it on the fly with my other cars.

For all who was interested in retrofitting their cars with bluetooth. I have 2006 325i, no BMW Assist, no Premium package, and of course no Bluetooth. This is the response I got from the BMW NA:
------------- ... Thank you for contacting BMW of North America, LLC regarding Bluetooth for your 2006 325i. That is a great model, and we hope it is serving you well. We are happy to address your concerns with Bluetooth technology for your BMW. Unfortunately, Bluetooth technology is not available for your vehicle without replacing the hardware which controls the communications in your vehicle. The replacement of this part is quite costly and some of our BMW centers decline to perform this service due to the cost involved, which must be paid completely by the customer. If Bluetooth is a necessity for your enjoyment of the vehicle, please check with your local authorized BMW center to determine their policy on performing this work. Should you need it, you will find a complete listing of authorized centers, categorized by name, state, or zip code, on our website at www.bmwusa.com. If you have any further questions, please reply to this e-mail or contact the Customer Relations and Services Department at 1-800-831-1117, Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 9:00 P.M., Eastern Standard Time. Again, thank you for contacting BMW. Sincerely, Tricia Young Customer Relations and Services Representative -------------

Bluetooth Kit Comment
Hi guys,
I'm from Montreal, but picked up my car from BMW Toronto. I have been given the same speech. It will cost around $5K to get this done after the fact. I am not happy about it. BUT - $2K while still steep, is better than 5. I have been doing a lot of reading and downloaded a manual or two. I can give this to reputable audio shop for half the dollars pr/hr that BMW charges. I don't know if anyone is still looking here (msegal and others that know more about this) - but do you have a part number? I've seen some oem kits on ebay that seem to run $1000CDN plus install may only be $1500 all in. That would sound appealing to me. ANy thoughts? Also, if you have a part number, this may be avail to order from Europe for $700 CDN which drops the overall price further. |

Not sure why all the confusion...Here is a link to bmwaccessories.ca website. They're quoting $615 CDN plus any money for additional parts if required to your car plus labor.

I have purchased that kit. I received it not too long ago (not from that person mind you) - I actually did the install myself, it was not rocket science at all! As long as you have 640 (pre-wire)....
Just came back from the stealership and they refuse to download the software for me, they want to charge me. And then, since they didn't do the work to install - they have to "troubleshoot" should it not work.... and they could not give any kind of estimate on that of course. At $120/hr ..... I said give me my car back. So for now - I have the kit installed, but cannot report anything yet. I need to find a dealer that is nice, and will download for free... I thought I had my ticket with the latest software recall, I just asked them to make it a part of it, and they said no..... I have to try another dealer then... And honestly - it was plug and play in five locations - I have no idea what they would have to troubleshoot - you actually can't screw it up, the shapes of the plugs don't allow for it.... ah well! |
