Matty BMW will not just do the right thing. you'll need to bring the car back when it suffers another fault etc until they throw in the towel.

It seems to me the software update causes the inline low pressure pump to build up pressure at the HFFP for a few seconds longer than with the original software. That might be enough to prevent long cranks but it's proven to not be a fix for the fuel system problems that often result in a failed HPFP.

Cheers... looks like i will be doing what i can to force a fault lol

They know how to play the game well.. so tempted to pay for them to replace items as its just annoying taking the car back each time.

If i had my way i would want, Injectors, Cams, Vanos and Exhaust Solarnoid, HPFP all replaced

Oh and maybe turbos aswell hahahahaha.... just to cover all bases of known consistent issues

I got the 'Engine Fault, check Engine' error all of a sudden this afternoon. Rang AC to confirm that it was okay to keep going and when I next started the car. it was gone.

Had a bit of an oil smell while in 'limp mode', and the exhaust sounded a bit rougher, but other than that, nothing.

I've had an HPFP changed previously and am 'due' for the Injectors campaign and have heard squat from the dealer for over a month. Sheez, they're useless. Even bagged the shit out of them in the BMW survey, deserved IMO, and still haven't heard anything.

Guess I'll be booking it in next week, plus it's just out of bloody warranty.

Sounds like I may have the same problem. Gave it a bit of throttle and on came the yellow engine light + the cat warning light (steady, not flashing). Engine felt as though it's running on 4 cylinders. I then coasted downhill for a while, lights went off, all is well.

No long cranks and car has only 35,000k (I just bought it but from researching previous owners I doubt it had been driven hard) so can't believe it could be worn camshafts.

One related issue was some misfiring while accelerating up a reasonably steep hill. No warning lights and cleared of its own accord when back to being driven gently on the flat.

From this, I'd say HPFP sounds like a reasonable bet. Wonder if I can get this covered under statutory second hand warranty?
