I don't get it... driver skill? That clip at 1.50-1.58 is mostly in 4th gear, even in a manual you'd be cruising doing nothing?

Kenny, have you got more than 1 of these threads going? You haven't updated my November 2011 time from last year. 12.1XX

http://www.dragtimes.com/BMW-135i-Timeslip-23545.html

I need to get back out there soon as that was done on 19 inch wheels. The lower profile really held me back.

As you know, Edwin recently run an 11 as well

Monster pass Edwin! I know your raceweight is significantly heavier than the other competitors on the list, big achievement.

Thanks Kenny. I like to work with having a slight disadvantage. It makes it that much more challenging for me. Only means I have to work harder and the reward is truely amazing.

That's a wicked 60ft time Edwin, especially considering how much extra weight you are carrying. I might load up the boot with a few bags of sand next time and see how I get on. What tyres were you using?

Thanks Vinney.
My 60 was better on my 12.4 run last year. I have some Federals that only have around 25% tread left. I do have a new set of AD08's in the garage. I wish I had those on for last weeks run.

That's impressive. Are you lowered by any chance? The AD08's run a bit square so it may be an issue for lowered DD. You should be able to better your ET with new rubber, but I really don't know how much more time you can shave off your 60ft as it's already low! General rule is for every 0.1 off your 60ft equals 0.2 off your ET.

My 12.1 was on 19 inch wheels on 265/30/19. There's just not enough rubber on the wheel and I was struggling for traction, very embarrassing and frustrating. Think I'll throw on the 18's and hope for the best. Is there room for another JB in the 11's?

Sorry missed this one Vinney. No I'm not lowered. I guess I'll have to wait and see how the new rubber goes.

You can always just get a nice set of 17" Kosei Rims with some DR's.
Plenty of room for more Aussie 11 second 135's for sure. I think by next year we'll have lots of 11 second 135/335's here.

You should be fine on stock height Edwin.

DR's would be a safe bet into the 11s but I'd like to run it on streets.

any idea what the full mod list is?

i don't understand .. are you talking about 135's? aren't they <1.5t (which to me is relatively light weight)... 300+hp stock isn't underpowered.. and .. what 245 rear stock isn't narrow, either? can fit a 265 easily without modification too :/

Yes I was kidding. I'm just saying that drag racing a 135 automatic is more about the engineering and tuning setup than driver skill. I don't want to kick off a further Holy War on here about that, some of my good forum buddies are drag racers with auto 135s.

Truth be told, if you want your name on the leaderboard you'd be nuts not to go with an auto over a 6MT in our cars. My argument is that it's a lot more challenging and a lot more fun to drag race a 6MT but that is purely a matter of taste.

You're in the drag racing world now dude!

A decent weight for a car is ~ 2,000 lbs (say 900 kgs).
Reasonable power is ~ 600 rwhp.
Usable tyres size is 30"x14"x15".

In the drag racing world our cars are super heavy, underpowered pigs with tiny tiny little tyres.

how come the factory times put the manual as slightly faster 0-60?
yeah, drag racing is about getting good times under your own merit, not having a computer do it for you.. may as well do it in a game, it's pretty much just as valid...

yeah for a full custom space frame dragster yeah? even a street car, getting one below 1t is .. well strip EVERYTHING out and you'll still expect at lest a tonne.. 30" wide?
i don't see the point of bringing in custom drag cars to this discussion that will never ever see anything other than a drag strip, they're cool and all, but i will never be super impressed by a car that can do one thing and one thing only >_<... when cars like the AMS GT-R exist.. or heck, any number of street cars that will do 10s or lower passes (arguably) street legally.

This whole argument about manuals being harder, bigger challenge is an absolute cop out. Duh it's harder... duh it's a challenge.

If you want a challenge, why aren't we using 20inch wheels with bald 185 rubber, whilst steering with one hand, blindfolded? Oh wait...

That's because drag racing is about getting to the end of the strip the quickest. So why use a car that is automatically (no pun intended) handicapped from the beginning?
