BMW 1M Coupes Arrive at Performance Center To Join M School Fleet
BIMMERPOST NEWS BMW 1M Coupes Arrive at Performance Center To Join M School Fleet They're here! The newest additions to the ///M school fleet at the BMW Performance Center in Spartanburg, SC have begun arriving. Approximately eight 1M coupes in total will be introduced to the group of M-cars which can be chosen by students participating in M performance driving courses at the Performance Center. Four 1Ms are already at the center and will be introduced to the fleet once their 1,200 mile break-in and scheduled service are completed. The 1Ms will also mark the re-introduction of manual transmission cars to the fleet, which we haven't seen since the departure of the Z4 M coupes. For details on the various performance driving schools available at BMW Performance Center see http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...yLI8uOjl3kxZfZ |

The perf school is pretty sick. They let you throw these cars and they encourage it. Doing the M school would be a dream, especially with the 1M.

Not a waste at all, the performance delivery was one of the coolest things I've experienced!

For a car with a small production run, quite a few have been allocated to promotional use by BMW.

to me it seems like there are just as many promotional 1M's as there are purchase ready 1M's....which, for such a low production car, is BS

Of course that's the way it is. Promotional/press cars are always going to be made first. What would be the point of having promotional cars once the production cars are all made and sold.

plus, remember that these cars will eventually be sold. I wouldn't knowingly buy a Performance Center car, but in a few months the press cars will get sent to the BMW auctions and they'll end up at BMW dealers. And we're not talking about a bunch of cars here... 8 PC cars and maybe another dozen or so press cars out of 1000+ for the US?

I'm working from memory, you can easily check the website, but I think the 1 day M school is less than $1500. I did the 2 day last year and it was closer to $3000 - but comes with a bunch of stuff including the hotel stay at the Marriott, helmet, and some clothes. Be sure to join the BMWCC to get the discount - it will more than pay for itself.
I don't know how they will manage the 1Ms. We drove M3s and M6s on the track and M5s on the skid pads. If you haven't driven the other M cars, I would think you would want some seat time in them. Having driven them just year, I would prefer to just drive the 1M (and smoke some M6s, the M3s are pretty fast around the course). I will probably look into this further. I could use more instruction and a chance to drive the 1M, hard, is very apealing. Jim
