iPhone connectivity
Hi guys,
quick question, with the BMW iPhone y-cable, should you be able to control next/previous track from steering wheel? Should the stereo be set to AUX or USB? I purchased a y-cable from ebay (couldn't justify the $124 from BMW), and although music plays via (AUX) I cannot skip tracks. cheers |

When it works, it comes up as iPod in the stereo. You can then control it via the steering wheel next/prev and also go through artists, playlists and whatnot in stereo controls.
Sounds like the USB part isn't working/talking to the device properly and as a result your just getting the audio from the phone.

Some of those cables on ebay are not genuine (shock horror!) and don't have the required chip in them to make all the functionality work properly, the way a genuine one does. I'm guessing your cable is one of those
I was warned about that before I bought mine - did end up getting one from ebay but a genuine one from a BMW dealer in UK...still paid a fair bit less than local price, but it wasn't nearly as cheap as all the China/Hong Kong/Taiwan etc etc ones on there. Mine just worked as soon as I plugged it all in - didn't have to change any settings or do anything. |

I got one off ebay for GBP10.99 so I'm guessing it's not genuine but it works fine. Luck of the draw I guess. Seller was igadgetsltd.

Just use a USB stick, sound quality is better too. Not that difficult to buy a 32GB stick and throw all your songs in there. BMW iPhone integration sucks... I wonder how it is on the new generation 1 & 3 series

We bought a cheapie Y cable, didn't work. Just audio through aux, not proper iPhone connection. My wife ended up just buying a snap-in adapter for the cradle in her 123d. That works fine, but like others here I just use a 64Gb USB most of the time (although you'll need to format it with fat32format, not with Windows tools).

I got a iPhone 4 ClicOn cradle (http://www.holdmyphone.com.au), so will connect it with an extension cable and Y-Cable.

ended up getting a y-cable from here;
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BMW-iPod-...item2c6286220e works a treat - same as BMW one, iphone is seen as iPod and music is displayed on stereo and can be controlled from steering wheel etc. cheers |
