anyway, back on topic... even though there were some, shall we say, design flaws with these, I think they are a beautiful looking plane: |

F-117 Nighthawk... one of my time favourites.
Even though known to be horrible at the controls, I will always love those metallic 80's razor-sharp "radar dancing" lines... Also love the P-51... |

Back in 2004 when I was in the middle east, I saw one of those still flying. Apaprently it's super-stable and make a great camera-truck.
I generally agree with most of these choices...though I'm a fan of 'purposeful' and 'mean' over 'pretty'....at least in the war-plane department. I'm big fan of ground-attack aircraft... Don't forget the choppers! As far as pretty goes, nothing beats the clean lines of a glider! oh yeah..I've done smithsonian too... :P Many years ago I was wildly fortunate to meet the man to fly the first jet-powered recconaissance mission, Erich Sommer. In Dulles, VA, they have one of what he flew, the Arado 234 Blitz....amazing! |

I have personally worked on this same aircraft. It was a pretty good one too.. Never caused too many problems. Sadly, the 81st FS will be deactivated next march. The same month I return that base. I'll miss the A-10.

Love the Udvar Hazy center.
Also I saw somebody likes F-18s The color correction is terrible on these, I did them 5 or 6 years ago when I was still learning PS. But I still like them Also this seems obligatory Last edited by BrokenVert; 04-29-2012 at 06:57 AM.. |

always had a bit of a soft spot for these, I think I saw one in Singapore last year, only time I've ever seen one
(as a Pilot put it on another forum I'm on, the Irish bought a few, and liked them so much they bought the stretched version) Last edited by MickyD; 04-30-2012 at 06:52 AM.. |

I was fortunate to fly in one back in 97. It was really weird being so short on the inside and its tail looks way too big in person, almost comic line (I suppose like our 1s in a way haha). I thought they've all been decommissioned now though.

I flew on a South African Airways 747SP in 1978 from Johannesburg to Sydney. The aircraft I flew on had the distinction of setting the long distance record for the time having flown non-stop from it's assembly plant in Seattle to Johannesburg.

AGM Maverick missiles, 4 GBU (JDAMs), a rocket pod and of course the 30mm Gatling gun. Also, while not a kinetic weapon, the pod on the wing closest to us is a jammer device called an AN/ALQ. here are some references: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jdam http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AIM-9 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AGM-65_Maverick http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mk_4/Mk..._Aerial_Rocket http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AN/ALQ-135 none are as big as our cars. maybe close in length.

also remember that these missiles hit the sonic velocity in about 2-3 seconds. If they werent slender and light no way could they accelerate that quickly.

Let us not forget the plane that keeps us VERY safe at night. While not a looker, she does what nothing else can. Hence the recent cancellation of the Global Hawk UAV program.

I love the discovery channel.
Watching Discovery Wings is actually what jumpstarted my interest in aircraft. |
