Full exhaust + GRRIIINNNNNGGGGG

Hey guys,

Car's now stage 2 setup, but I wanted to keep the stock muffler to keep the stock look and a acceptable level of dB.

Fact is that it sounds AWFUL at 2000rpm, like a ricer shit knocking metal...

Question is... which muffler should I get to get a deep and nice sound, but not as loud as Akrapovic...?

Milltek ? Lightweight ? HMS ?

Probably want to avoid Meisterschaft then as it is pretty loud and raw IMO. But I love mine anyway!!!

I'll give you an update on my Lightweight Titan exhaust when it goes in this Thursday but I got the LOUD version (plus catless DPs) so I'm not exactly expecting stealthiness

I've got the Eisenmann Race setup and I think it does a great job of deepening the exhaust note without going louder than stock.

My main question is basically:

- what final muffler to get when you are
catless and straight pipes, to avoid the griinnnngggg at 2000 RPM.

I know Meistershaft is too loud !

Any idea on Milltek ?

I don't think a different muffler is the answer to your dilemma. They won't cure the "griinnnngggg" any more than the stock muffler will...they might even make it worse. What has apparently worked for many is welding a set of resonators to your straight mid-pipes. Search the forum for this. I have read of many positive results by doing this (plus it's cheaper than a new muffler).

Akra's got a the valve switch so you can choose loud (open) or stock "almost" (closed).

Good point.
My straight pipes are N55 pipes modified to suppress the box. Maybe I shouldn't...

Does anyone know how much of a loss in power is experienced with the valve closed (i.e. dyno'd open and closed)? Seems like a really turbulent set up (unless open).

Don't believe anyone has measured it, but it will be very minor -- perhaps 3-5 hp at most.

Most of the exhaust-related gains are from deleting the catted downpipes.
