Since mine is an 09, I guess I will be in the first group of cars to get the fix?

They are doing a research project concurrently with replacing the effected airbags. The purpose of the research project is to gauge exactly how dangerous these installed airbags really are, and the only way to do this accurately is to have a pool of available subjects ("guinea pigs" as it were) to study.

As a result, BMW of NA and the DOT (Dept. of Transportation) has decided to use model year 2009 as the "test year," and that year will be the last model year whose airbags will be replaced.

So, you may have to wait a while longer than the rest of us. Hope that your selection to be in this class does not have any personal adverse effects on your person.

Hope this helps.

Yes I had to pay child support, but now I'm doing my own "research project" to see how lack of funds could adversely affect the chosen test subject (guinea pig).
So yeah I can see how someone (BMW) can decide to forbear a court order and take a break for research purposes.

All joking aside, do you have a link that explains this "turning of the tables" event?

If you are referring to my post, it was a joke :-)

No one here has any clue what the order of the repairs will be and probably it hasn't even been decided yet.

This is surprising. The largest concentration of hot air in the nation is clearly Washington, DC

From what I could find, the only occurrences happened with older cars in very humid climate, seems to be more of combinations of conditions leading to these conditions. The cars affected seem to be older than 2005...

This is the internet, and there is no shortage of gullible people

Some people even believe online restaurant reviews, when a huge percentage are posted by competitors, disgruntled employees, friends of the owner or the owner himself, or people otherwise with conflicting interests or an axe to grind.

Just got my letter last week. Since I have a 2013 model, I doubt there will be parts available any time soon.

Do we actually know if once parts come in, they are going to try to replace them by oldest to newest? If so, who knows when on earth us 2013 owners might see parts available. A year?

Age before beauty? O=)

I was told there'd be no math.

I could care less about the defective airbag itself, but with hundreds of thousands of just BMWs affected, I wonder when a realistic time to even expect mine coming up for replacement. Then they'll probably find something wrong with the replacement ones and do it all over again. Ha!

Quoting my service advisor in an email from Feb 16:

Yes, it will be a long time… we are hoping by fall we will have parts for the recall. The parts are still being manufactured. Once the parts are made available, BMW will send out recall letters to all clients affected.

I have an 06 and a 13. Guess I will find out the answer to that question.

Here at Acura, we have been dealing with this recall for 8 years. It is going to be a long ride. I have checked/replaced the airbags in some cars four times now.

All affected owners should be frequently deploying said air bags in hopes to take bodily harm, and a nice settlement. JOIN THE MOVEMENT

Kind of upset that my 2013 is effected, got the letter early this week. Seems like I had read somewhere that the mid-2012's and beyond used a different airbag part, but I guess whatever it is still has the same issues. :-(

Would have liked to have known when the issues first surfaced.

Also, I live less than 100 yards from the ocean. So yeah...high humidity area.

Aww, I got the PPK2 though on my N55, so pretty similar, though having had an original 2008 135, I do prefer the N54 engine.

Mine is tuned to 370HP 390TQ. But I'll call it a tie.
