My mostly uneducated understanding is this...
Original requirement for run-in service was to change the tranny fluid. As soon as all the LT5 availability issues began happening in the US, a bulletin was issued that said the tranny fluid swap was not necessary - Canada followed suit. So either your dealer follows the bulletin and leaves the tranny fluid alone, or you get a dealer that happens to have the stuff in stock and does it for you, regardless. In my case, I had my service done before the bulletin was issued, so mine was swapped. Indeed, Ronster - still on there since the spring of '02 as mblotto |

Well, I go in to BMW of Mississauga on Monday. Wish me luck. I'm pretty sure all the people there think I'm being "That customer", but so far they've been very accommodating. I even emailed my SA and he's gone over and double checked with the service guys... Let's see how they do.
I have a feeling they're going to do exactly what they were originally planning to do Hopefully it's inline with what I told them I expected... |

I really want to give BMW of Mississauga a positive review... I really do. I know my SA went above and beyond to get everything I requested looked after. I had sat down with him earlier last week and he confirmed that every part number I listed was in stock and available for my service today. I went home and emailed a summary, including all the part numbers, to my sales guy and asked him to forward it to the service manager (I knew I was being anal at this point, but I mentioned that my SA was very helpful, and I was only emailing the service manager to ensure everyone was on the same page...)
My sales guy didn't actually forward it along to the service manager, but instead spoke to my SA a second time, who said everything was good to go... Whatever I guess, let's see what happens. I show up this morning and find that my sales guy didn't have time to arrange for a loaner (there's a 2 week waiting period for the loaners, I was hoping my sales guy would somehow pull out an ace... no such luck, it doesn't even seem like he tried, despite telling me he would.). I ended up paying for a rental, since I had plans I couldn't get out of. My SA handled everything, took 20 minutes to setup. No big deal, it was $35... I thought they would at least make an exception, seeing as I dropped quite a bit of money on the car at their dealership. Ok, I'm rambling... I left a printed note inside the car, highlighting every part number that should be used. Long story short, they looked after each of my requests (I had a bad driver's weather strip, which they replaced) and even changed my transmission oil under warranty! Despite them telling me there was an updated service bulletin telling them not to do it. (As per this thread, I told them Budds does it for free Despite all my warnings, they actually installed the wrong transmission fluid in the car. MTF-LT-2 instead of MTF-LT-5... I would have been furious right now, but either I'm in a really good mood today, or it was the fact their staff went and swapped the tranny fluid (Even if they don't go above and beyond, i.e.: writing off a $35 rental). Back I go tomorrow. I hope they have the MTF-LT-5 fluid, like they said they did..... Last edited by -cj-; 01-30-2012 at 07:12 PM.. |

That sucks cj...I was lucky enough to be able to stay and bug them. (of course my paperwork has the right p/n's but who knows what's actually in my car...)
Sound like Open Road might be a good bet. |

Sounds familiar -cj-, you have had alot of patience with that dealership. I had the same patience and put in the same efforts to help them do the job they should be able to do by themselves that i will only ever return there if i have too, good luck tomorrow!

Thanks guys.
I called up my SA and he took care of me right away. I had a loaner waiting for me by the time I got there and they had my car ready within a few hours. I put about ~60 km of low-RPM driving on the MTF-LT-2 fluid, so I think I'm fine. Other than wishing they had a loaner for me yesterday, it ultimately got resolved quickly, which was great. |

I've booked an appt this Friday @ Open Road. I've confirmed everything through email and phone and make sure they've got MTF-LT-5 in stock. I'll report back my experience.

Good luck! I think it's better to refer to the MTF-LT-5 by name instead of part number. "Apparently" the tech used a different part number because the part # I included was for a larger quantity and instead of finding the right part number for the quantity they tech wanted to use (1L bottles I think), he just substituted for a different oil all together....... (I don't buy it)
