N51 with BMWPE Pops and Bangs - Secondardy Cat Delete?
I have an N51 and just added a performance exhaust 2 weeks ago. Has anyone had success creating pops and bangs with the N51? Would deleting the secondary cat help? Headers (what type and what is the price)? I know many say that deleting the secondary cat will be too loud, but I am not worried about how loud it is, as long as it sounds nice. I tend to drive in low rpms anyways. I love the BMWPE sound, but since I drive in low rpms, I want a bit more of an aggressive sound. Thanks

Get rid of the resonator OR go for catless headers. Either will give you more volume and burbles and pops on decel.
Catless headers AND resonator delete with give you pops and bangs on decel, but they're really quite loud and obnoxious. I was 18 when i had that setup and i still thought it was ridiculous LOL. A LOT of rasp with this setup as well.

In high school guys used glass packs to get pops and bangs... if I remember right.

If you just delete the resonator you'll get a lot of pops and bangs. I'd start with that.

You can get similar but quieter results with a muffler as well. I'm running SS headers, stock secondaries, stock resonator, and a SS muffler and get plenty of burble pops on overrun.

Does the golf tee mod increase the burble? I have basically the same set up as the St|g and hardly get pops and burbles. I miss it from my overkill Mini.

Sadly, the gold tee mod doesn't make a noticeable difference for a 128i like it does for the 135i. The only golf tee sound difference in the 128i is the tink, tink (from the flapper opening and closing).

I'm not exactly sure what sound you're looking for (or what specifically makes pops and bangs), but I'd put more miles on the PE before doing anything else. 2 weeks is not a sufficient amount of time to 'break' the exhasut in.

Yep. You need to put several thousand miles on the PE to fully carbon up and its tone to change.

The PE exhaust sounds great initially when you first install it but the sounds actually soften after awhile. PE doesn't have flaps as well. OP not sure what your budget is as there are many ways of achieving what you want like other members have suggested. I have the PE myself and sec removed (get pop, gurgle etc)but if I were to do it again I opt for SS headers like StIg and keep secondary.

LOL! Thanks everyone! I am going with a tune and SS headers...so it's back to saving. As for the snap rocks, instead of putting them in your tank, you are supposed to put them in your exhaust, this way when you rev it, the air pressure launches them out. Duh!!!

does anyone know how well these fit the 128i? I really want to pull the trigger, but I also don't know what clamps I need to get.
