What mods to get for 135i 6MT?

I am new to the 135i, well I haven't even got it yet but I should have it in about 2 weeks.

I am interested in doing some mods and with all cars there are those mods that are great and those that are not so great.

If you are starting with a stock OEM 135i 6MT what mods would you do?

This car will be a dd for me and I am looking to increase performance but to also keep the car very drivable.

Thinking about Dinan Tune or JB3
Better intercooler or keep stock?
Catch can or not?
OEM Intake or upgrade?

What else should I consider?

I am not intrested in changing anything on the exhaust, brakes or wheels at this time.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If I were looking for some easy extra performance a full exhaust system would actually the be the first stop on that route. For example the Berk street system is about $1,000 and nets you ~20 rwhp and ~30 rwtq which would be a very noticeable gain over stock for very moderate expense and fuss. It also shaves a decent amount of weight, nets you a little extra mpg, + sounds/looks cool. Very decent ROI IMO.

JB3 and exhaust are a must for performance IMO. Berk makes a solid system, same with Active and Remus if you are after a quad output.

20 whp. It's a downpipe-back system. Not sure if they even make N55 downpipes yet. (That also would not be an emissions legal part in most places since it would get rid of the catalytic converter.)

Nothing.

Drive the car for 1,200, change the oil, and then worry about tossing parts onto the car. Just enjoy it!

Yes - it sounds great - Mark171 spotted me driving the other day and said "that exhaust sounded great from across the road in the opposite direction".

"This car will be a dd for me and I am looking to increase performance but to also keep the car very drivable."

Get a tune, get rid of the CVD and the car will be a completely different animal for about $400 and very little work. I like the JB3 tune and think it is the most common. Get some wheels and non run flat tiers. The tries will improve the ride and wheels will make your 135i look different than others. From what you said you want to do that is what I would recommend. Do some searches to see what people have done to get some ideas. Post some pics.

vague question...

What is your budget?
Are you planning to track your car, or is this just your DD?
Do you care about if you void your warranty?
Have you done a search on the forum about any of these mods you asked about?

IMHO, I would do them all...except the Dinan, dont waste your money on that. Go PROcede V5 or JB4

+1 on the PROcede. Major gains in power for little money. You can get a new one now for around $650 bucks. A cheap DCI will help the tune and it's also very cheap. No need to upgrade IC unless you are going with lots more mods and higher boost. I would add a downpipe and keep the rest of the exhaust stock. Clutch stop mod I've read is very good, but haven't done it myself. Hope that helps.

^ the clutch has a one way value in it called a clutch delay value which stops you from dumping the clutch. Most people remove the so they have full control over the clutch.

For the OP, start with the JB4 and a DCI. Car will run and sound a ton better with just that. DO IT!

I have decided to do a flash tune. Either through ESStuning or a custom dyno flash tune from Topspeed in Atlanta.

Will also remove the CDV. My M3 drove much better and I am sure that the 135 will respond the same.

I am sure that I will do many of the other mods that everyone has recommended but those are my starting point.

Here are the dynos for ESS and Topspeed.

to be honest it really all depends on what u want .. my first mods are all weight saving mods.. carbon hood and trunk, lightweight wheels and tires, light weight battery and seats..
and light weight brakes..

my reason for this is lighter is always faster..

What battery did you go with? I just picked up a 135i and couldn't believe how big the battery was. How much weight was really saved you think?
