Painting wheels back to stock color

I'm looking at a car (to buy) that has had its wheels (m-sports) painted white.

I'm not a fan of the color and prefer the original silver. Is repainting them the right option here? Were the original wheels painted (forgive my ignorance). Is it as simple as matching the original color?

Thanks for any help!

I would personally use those as winters and get a new set for summers. If not I would suggest powdercoating as it will be the most resistant against chips.

Most VMRs you can use stock tires on and then buy some snow tires for winter.

I think your best bet might be to find someone on the forum selling their stock wheels, which happens quite frequently, and then sell the white ones on here to help offset the cost. Probably the easiest and perhaps cheapest solution as well.

It can be costly to get a quality paint job done. When repainting over old paint, it can be hard to know how secure the old paint is. I had this done before and it didn't take long for the paint to flake off in some spots. I ended up having the wheels sandblasted and refinished.

+1 on sandblasting and refinishing. You would also want to have a pro check them to make sure they are 100% round too. They can fix any little dents on the lips which will massively to reduce weights necessary to balance them out.

Should cost about $100/wheel to have them stripped and refinished. I've used wheelsamerica.com with good luck.

Thanks to everyone who replied. I didn't get any notifications, so sorry for the silence.

In the end, this car wasn't certified by the dealer because of a non-oem bumper. So I'm back to searching!

Just wanted to throw out a cheap solution: Plastidip True Metallic Aluminum. You can always peal it off later.
