This is true, I think really it is because of the ease and availability of good meth kits lately.

A 1715kg / 3780lb car (1800kg / 3968lb with driver) with a 134-136mph trap speed would indicate 700hp+ according to most of the calculators on the internet?
Doesn't really matter, its a beast of a car no matter what its "hp number" is. You can have a 1000hp car and still not have a "quick" ET, thats what makes drag racing such a challenge

Justin's car ran drag radials. It would seem the extra load from the tyres caused clutch issues, so it only got one pass. I think it was only a highish 1.8 60 foot, so alot more to come here. It should be capable around 2 tenths better in the 60 foot time with the DRs, so 11.5-11.6 is definately on the cards once the clutch is sorted and the car can post a good pass. Also MPH was down from last time on the only pass done, so probably a little more in it with that. This car with an Auto would be a serious contender for low 11s. |

Actually we only ran 3 passes in the whole night. The first pass was a "do-over", as the car bogged badly out of the box due to the grip we now had, from both the Hoosiers and the somewhat sticky track. The second effort saw our 11.949 seond pass with what we suspected to be clutch slippage on the 2nd to 3rd & 3rd to 4th gear changes, which is evidenced by our "slow" 120 mph trap speed. Unfortunately the 3rd pass confirmed our clutch suspicions, it was not a happy camper. Truth be told, it was fucked! According to "the Stig" aka DMM aka Dale it was slipping badly out of the box and was near impossible to grab a gear on the up changes. He limped it back around and after a quick evaluationi it was obvious the clutch was now toast, so we called it a night. Thankfully following a cool down it was a little easier to engage a gear. With the use of some TLC and double clutching he was able to drive it back to Advan and park it safely in the workshop. FYI, the upgraded ACT organic "Street" clutch is a damn fine clutch. It had held countless dyno pulls at well over 300 rwkw and a shite load of torque at the crank, two solid track days and a lot of "spirited" driving on the street, ummm I mean "private road" of course. However lanuching the car out of the box at 6,500 rpm with 275 Hoosiers on the rear, was beyond its clamping capabilities. We kind of knew that and Peter suspected it would just be a matter of time before it let go. I would consider it the best clutch upgrade currently available, for anyone who wishes to retain a high degree of streetability and improve upon the pedal feel of the lifeless OE clutch. Unless you plan to go drag racing with super grippy Hoosiers on the rear and have dynoed up, North of 300 rwkw it's a great choice. The ACT "Street" clutch has a firmer pedal than the OE unit and it also has a nice progressive feel to it, where the pedal firms up the closer it is to the floor. All around it's a better clutch than the stock unit and certainly more of a "driver's clutch", the OE clutch is just too light and spongey in its operation. Oh, lastly here is the timeslip from our not so eventfull trip to WSID. Cheers, JD. Last edited by JD75; 09-23-2011 at 11:51 PM.. Reason: Typo |

Great to see two eleven second passes on the same night! Michael with the first Australian eleven and the quickest 135 in Oz, quickest AT 135 in Oz. Justin with the quickest MT 135 in Oz and second car into the elevens by a couple of minutes.
Great times!

That's exactly what I said Richard. Justin with the quickest MT 135 in Oz. The entry on the list is under Dale Malone who was the driver.

I very much believe that will be the case, providing we do not brake something else in the process. We are just sorting out the best plan of attack, with regards a suitable replacement clutch & flywheel combo. Quote:
The three low 12 second passes we ran last time out saw two 122.xx mph traps, with another that was 123 mph. Yep, a clutch that can handle the punishment the Hoosiers throw at it should make for interesting times, no pun intended. I'm not at all concerned that we were not the first to run an 11 second pass in Aus, but thank you nevertheless. Quote:
very funny indeed, but who will be the first to run an 11.4xx pass? With regards the "next milestone", what is the N54 manual transmission record ET that your boy Shiv owns? If we could better that, I imagine that pass would make for some rather interesting forum banter. Quote:
However I gain the same level of satisfaction from the vehicle running strongly, whether I am behind the wheel or not. Quote:
However if you are running the OE clutch, it will surely take a beating if you launch it out of the box hard. Dale was being "mechanically sympathetic" on our first outing with the Hoosiers and we still managed to toast the ACT "Street" clutch, which is by no means a "glass" clutch. Just something to consider mate, but good luck. Last edited by JD75; 10-01-2011 at 09:17 PM.. Reason: Typo |

Justin - might be an idea to get in touch with HPF as they have a clutch in the works. All of their parts are top notch, I have their FMIC and it's a great piece of kit. I'm sure their clutch will be nothing short of high quality but it will cost a bit $$ and will take some time.

The race industry can engineer something superior to any HPF solution.

HPF are expensive for everything they offer. Also don't believe US marketing about anything!

I finally fixed my meth flow problems yesterday and decided to take it to the drags straight away, I didn't have time to log the car but I could tell it was flowing properly from the oil hijack gauge and my butt dyno.
The changes to the car from previous runs were: Meth (70/30 mix), Wavetrac LSD, SF-71 19 inch wheels, Michelin PSS 225/35/19 265/30/19. My best time was 12.173@113.70mph. Overall, I was satisfied that I made progress with a new PB but disappointed that I didn't break into the 11s just yet. Most of my mph were in the 113-115mph range. I will have to go back soon as it's only my 4th time ever drag racing. |
