I tried to purchase a couple of things from getbmwparts.com and i got a reply email asking for a copy of my drivers lic and credit card front and back... also a contact number for my cards bank, all because my zip code is outside the usa..

i'm a bit taken by the amount of info these guys are asking for-

Is this legit?

ianf2002, they accepted my credit card no probs. visa/mastercard is world wide?

blackonblack, i had to scan in my credit card and drivers licence, i think i just left the last 4 digits on my cc, and they were happy with that. as for the contact details for the bank, they didnt ask me that?

i also would recommend them. very fast service.

I've had that from VAC racing once. After the first transaction went through they took my credit card every time with no hassles.

Correct, bit only for Aus. BMW Australia complained to HQ.

GetBMWParts.com do actually say on their site that for the first transaction you have to provide license/credit card scans and that they will only ship to the billing address of the credit card used.

ONLY for the first transaction though. The blurb on the site says that it's because of the amount of internet credit card fraud they've had.

I just used my phone to take photos of the cards and then emailed them over. Not a problem.

Got a set of wheels delivered in exactly 10 days. Saved me over $5000. Well worth the hassle.

Harlequin, did your wheels come via USPS, then Aust Post ? I ordered a M3 sway bar off them Thursday last week.... Hoping it will arrive next week.

No way of tracking the shipment once it leaves the States. Unlike Tire Rack who use Fedex, and you can track it all the way to ur door

Yup. Delivered by Aussie Post. They will continue to update the tracking details... have a look at mine:

As you can see, there's a 7 day gap where there was no update but they did continue to update as soon as it hit Customs in Australia.

My wheels were sent as 2 separate packages with 4 separate tracking numbers - 1 for each box. The tracking details are identical (with a minute or two variance) for all 4 boxes.

My wife is picking up a ZHP gearknob from them this morning - she is in DC on a business trip. I don't like the lack of inventory on their website - you only find out if they have it after you buy it. I was after some other things (such as the ashtray delete utility box and rubber insert), but I guess just the gearknob makes it easy for her to cart back for me! They seem to have terrific customer service though.
