BMW cars always overestimates the speed on the speedo....this is common knowledge. the overestimation increases with increasing speend, for example an indicated speed of 82 on my car is actually closer to a true 78.
i like it....helps you stay a little more legal.....

I that really a "BMW thing" as you suggest? I've not found a manufacturer who doesn't to this. They need to ensure that they don't find themselves liable for a speeding fine a customer gets because the car was under-reporting the speed, and given the variances caused as the tires wear, they always err on the side of caution.

you still didn't answer the question... guys...
As far as i know you can't show the speed in nav screen based on gps..
At lest not in Prof Nav in 325xi coupe (2007)
So I reckon You can't do it in Prof nav of 2008 1 series,
Maybe the new nav for 2009 model though...?
I'll see once i get it in nov

ya you're right, but BMW is known for a gross overestimation -- speeds of 100+ are overestimated as much as 10 MPH
but ya, all cars are required to do a minor over-estimation by law.
