Thank you for the information. I am still waiting for someone to tell me what it costs in electricity bills to charge the various vehicles on the market. And I can guarantee you that the price of electricity will "necessarily skyrocket" when there are sufficient number of cars on the road. A 100 mile trip is standard for me so it would not be beneficial.

Full charge for AE(100miles) is about 30kwh @ $0.15/kwh = $4.50

100 milers ActiveE, Leaf = $4.50
40 milers Volt = $2.75
200+ milers Tesla S = $12.75

MITE46's post above made me laugh. I have a neighbor (female, late 50s, single...in case anyone's interested LOL) that traded in her Lexus SC430 for a Tesla because "...gas prices are so high now." Then, only a few months later, she bought a Cayenne GTS because she needed a "practical" car, too.

Anyway, back on topic! So, I'm curious, how realistic is the 100-mile range? I think about my commute (70 miles round trip daily) and I wonder if the Active E could actually deal with that.

I do an 84 mile commute with my ActiveE without a problem. I can charge at work if needed, but don't always do so because it's not necessary unless I'm going to be going to other places later in the day before I go home.. I'm averaging about 97 miles per charge now but can get it up to 110-115 if I need to just by driving slower and more efficiently.

I have over 11,000 miles on it and have had it 4 months and 2 days. (Picked it up January 13th) I'm on pace for 34-35k per year so yeah, it can deal with a lot of driving, just not long trips between plugging in.

Ugh, makes me want one even more! I work in NJ but live in PA so I wasn't eligible for the ActiveE

The ActiveE would be very practical. The range, in non-Eco Pro mode for me is about 85 miles on a full charge. I happen to charge my vehicle at work most of the time since work pays for the electricity, making it even more financially beneficial to me, but even if you don't the ActiveE would make a 70 mile roundtrip commute easily. Several of ActiveE drivers have one way commutes of 70+ miles and then rely on the time at work to charge up. Another important thing to remember is that the car uses virtually no electricity when stopped, so if you happen to get caught in a bad traffic jam there is very little worry of running out of electricity from it.

I just saw one of these on Long Island the other day and had to look it up. Cool to know there are only 700 of them here on a test run and I got to see one. Good luck with it!!

I know of a few people on LI that have them. One lives on Shelter Island and is a ferry boat captain there.

Thanks! We're in the lead by the slightest margin. Stop back every now and then to update your mileage.

I'm paying just like you, but will all the miles I drive it feels like free because I'm not buying gas and I charge the car off my home solar array so I don't even have an electric bill most months.

I'll put 65,000 to 70,000 miles on it in two years and hand back the keys - unlimited miles on a lease? You can't beat that!
