You have the steptronic...

The "M3" paddles do not work as "plug and play" with the DCT... trust me, I've tried them.

I like but its not enough of an upgrade to justify the cost my friend! I want more aggressive paddles.

You try just the paddles or the entire M3 switch assembly?

Entire assembly. The paddles themselves cannot be swapped over to the N55 DCT assembly either.

I know that the M3 paddels won't fit our switches. Sucks that the entire switch assembly can't be swapped either.
Thanks for the info.

What specifically does not allow you to swap these paddles? Is the plug different, is the assembly a different shape etc?

Ya know, I'm really not sure. I think it takes some programming from the dealer to get them to work (which is probably really expensive), but I have no idea if it could actually be done. After playing around with it for a while, I decided the M3 paddles aren't really an upgrade from the stock DCT paddles... see below.

Here are the facts (remember this is for the 135i DCT only):

- They are plug-and-play on the 128i and 135i steptronic
- The plug is the same... it's a rectangle, 3-prong connection, but one wire is in a different location
- I tried every wire combination and still no go
- The assembly fits and fastens to the same location
- The paddle itself, from what I could feel has about the same tension and travel as the stock DCT paddle (I recently drove the new 3-series coupe with the steptronic but DCT-like paddles, and they had an extremely soft tension and little travel, which I did not like)... I was hoping with the M3 paddles that they would have a stronger tension, longer travel, and make some sort of sound (louder than the DCT "click").
- The M3 paddles are not really bigger in size than the DCT paddles, they just look different

I don't want the stock M3 paddles, but the M3 switch would allow me to use the extended paddles that a few companies sell. That's why I'm so curious.
Again, thanks for posting the info, much appreciated.

No problem. Glad I could be the guinea pig. Ended up getting my money back, so all is good.

Again, yes, the M3 paddles work on steptronic.

So to clarify the m3 paddles do or do not work with DCT?

I keep checking this thread hoping that someone has managed to retrofit larger paddles to our 135 DCTs.

SMG is Sequential Manual Gearbox, which is discontinued after its applications in E36/E46/E60/E36. It is now replaced by DCT (Dual-clutch transmission)

Steptronic is the regular BMW Automatic Transmission

SMG and DCT paddles shifters are not interchangeable.
