Reminder - Bird Droppings

Just a friendly reminder to wash bird droppings off your car IMMEDIATELY.

A bird crapped on the trunk of my car Saturday morning. I didn't get around to washing it off until Sunday. By then, 24 hours later, the clearcoat had already been etched.

It's shocking how crappy the clearcoat on these cars is.

Yeah - not impressed AT ALL with the clearcoat on these 135i's. I was convinced Subaru had the worst paint in existence - not anymore.

I've heard it might partially be due to no one using lead based paints anymore. Apparently those were a lot better...but also terrible for the environment.

Clearcoat and paint are both very soft on these cars...I already have chips and scratches after 6 months that I didn't have on my Honda after a year.

Then I guess its a good thing that I have the paint color that was discontinued because it shat up the environment.

Had the same happen to me and I didn't even wait 24 hours. It was only 4 hours for me and it was already etched in the clear coat. It faded away after a while though.

I keep a microfiber rag and some quick detail spray in my trunk.
The worst in our neck of the woods are "love bugs" they will ruin a paint job in no time.

I have a black 135 and the paint is very soft which is bad in this way and good because it is easier to correct with good polish and a good buffer with an orange or yellow pad. I had a bad one on my hood that i tried to clean up when it first happened but it hardened and left etching and scratches but it did go away when I took the Flex and menzerna SIP and an orange pad to it. Bird shit is a detailers worst nightmare though. that is why Paul Dalton who is one of the most sought after detailers says that a lot of his business comes from emergency calls about bird crap on their fancy cars.lol Those $5000 details are not what pays his bills I guess.

GodDAMN!!! Birds mustve fuckin all had their birdy gps set for ur car, thats like 20 birds all rocket-shitting at once...never seen it that bad!

Anyhoo I purchased the Simoniz GLASSCOAT option for to be done at the prep center after delivery. Look it up, I guess not all dealers give this option. Supposedly a VERY tough and easy maintanence clear liquid that chemically adheres to the clearcoat, which within the application will form a durable ceramic film. Completely clear, makes it much much harder for shit like this to fuck up ur clearcoat. Requires ALOT less maintenance like sealants n shit. My SA explained it to me in detail, said theyve tested it on several vehicles theyve sold all with excellent review. It also is applied to the interior, kinda like a teflon based process, to the carpets, seats and floor mats. All comes with a 5 year warranty on paint defects, non conditional since there are no maintenance requirements after this is applied. So if somethin like this were to happen and u washed it and it had etched thru to the clearcoat n looked like shit, u take it to them and they fix it up, buff it out and reapply it, free.

I think they were just mad because they have no thumbs and are to small to drive it so they pooped on it. That is what haters do
