BMW PS + VMR VB3 18s and rubbing?
Hey guys
I tried to search but i keep getting a memory error on 1addits.com - must be from their server or something. I’ve tried 4 computers, all diff browsers...so i gave up searching that way. I went through about 10 pages of threads and did not see anything regarding what i am experiencing. So back to the topic: as the subject says, i have the BMWPS, VMR VB3 in 18s staggered with 225/255 tire setup (tires are Michelin PSS). I rub in the back on bumps, what’s the best option to resolve this? I figured I have a few options 1) New rear tires - go to some 245s 2) Camber plates to help tuck the tires in 3) roll the fenders - i don’t REALLY want to do this, but if it’s the only real way to resolve this, ill debate it. Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance Benji

Assuming your rubbing on the outside, your options are:
A) more camber B) stretch a narrower tire or shorter tire, depending what your current AR is. C) get wheels with the correct offset D) roll/pull fenders

Those Michelins have tall squared sidewalls. Either roll your fender arches or switch tires to something more rounded out, those are probably the easiest solutions aside from going with different wheels.

thanks for the info guys
@ b1aze - i have the correct offset wheels as per **********s when i ordered them. im assuming its likely that my tires are too fat for the drop, but i will look into skinner tires. im just afraid that skinnier tires (of the same brand - ie switching from 255 to 245s) will end up with the same situation. i spoke to a shop about rolling and they were confident it would resolve the issue, but skeptical that they wouldnt fuck with my paint negatively. these guys are highly rated and i respect their opinion. their suggestion was to leave it alone since its a minor rub only on big bumps, but ill see how i feel about that. i also havnt had any passangers in the car with me since the new rims....lucky me.

Hey drinkcoke, i also had the same issue as you. I have VMR wheels and Michelin PSS (same size as yours). Both sides at the back rubbed a small amount over bumbs, VMR said there should be no rubbing so I jacked the car up and on both sides the inner fender wells were out just slightly. I was able to tuck them back in and no more rubbing. Hopefully it's an easy fix for you.

No I am not running the BMW Performance suspension, as you said it is a little lower. I have had four adults in my car which lowered a lot more then 1/2' and nothing rubbed. I hope it is the same problem because it was a simple fix.

Find where it's rubbing, there should be a clear 'rubbed' spot. It most likely on your fender liner and you can just tuck it so it's out of the way as Malinois said.

You can fit 285's with the correct offset wheel FYI. If you want to stop rubbing, fix the problem at the source.

the offsets on the wheels are correct for the car, as per the vendor and the manufacturer
VMR VB3: Front Size:18x8.5 ET40 Rear Size:18x9.5 ET45 with 225/255 tires - Michelin PSS, and as stated above running BMW performance suspension so i am lowered. I have not had a chance to get under the car but will look into it one night this week.

I'm also concerned with this issue. I have the same wheels, tire size and offsets as OP but with stock suspension atm. I don't have any rubbing right now but I have a new set of ST coilovers sitting in my garage ready to be installed. I'm hoping I won't have to roll my rear fenders.

VMR makes a 9.5" ET50 for the rear of our cars that would be better. Problem you've got is twofold. The PSS tires run wide and you have a relatively aggressive offset wheel on there.

You should apply the maximum value for the BMW Performance suspension on the rear alignment
That fixes the problem with VMR and very slightly dropped 1-Series I will do it when I will change my dampers

Thanks for all the input here guys and sorry for the delay.
I have found that I'm not rubbing on my fender lip as I originally thought. I only rub there when pulling into or out of extreme slope in driveways. Mostly I'm rubbing in the fender well somewhere but even with the car on a lift found no signs of rubbing on the tire or in the fender. As winter is basically here, i need to take my summer tires off but will be revisiting this in the spring with an alignment. I will update the thread (and add some pics for those that asked for them) when I can. I think I have some photos I can upload now. I'll check when I'm on a computer, on the app now. Thanks all Benji

i have the same offset wheel and i have the rears rolled. you may want to look at the inner wheel well area where the fender meets the rear bumper. thats where you will rub when pulling into and out of driveways/slopes
