BMW headlight and Navigation Issue.
My car has been having some crazy electronic issues for the last 3ish months. Its a 2008 135i that is just now undergoing the battery cable recall for the power to ECU --so this might relieve some issues).
Besides getting 20x "Electronic System Failures, Not safe to continue driving your vehicle" messages a day for the last month, my iDrive controller has stopped working; Screen and everything works, just can't control or switch out of last screen. I was wondering if anyone had an issue with the controller and if just replacing it with a 100$ ebay one would fix that. Also every few weeks I burn up a drivers side turn Bulb socket, turn indicator (63126940665). When I remove the housing behind the tire and pull the socket the bulb sits in out, the little metal contact is always burned to the point of not being operational. BMW told me that I need to replace the entire headlight..... I assume there must be a cheaper way around this. Lastly my bmw 1M retrofits just don't do anything when plugged up.... I ultimately decided to leave them unplugged and move the glass by hand to my desired angle. Just sucks not having things like the revers mirror and will effect my resale. Wondering if anyone has had an issue with retrofits.

I can chime in regarding the headlight issue. Unfortunately, the same thing happened to me with my headlight. All of the metal contact on mine had corroded from weather and had to be replaced. Long story short, it was in the neighborhood of $2600 to replace/reprogram the headlight(s). Nightmare of a situation on me really vs BMW on this one.
I hope for your sake you don't have to replace it but it sounds like that is going to be the case. Just a heads up on the price so its not as big a shocker when you find out from a SA. |

Yeah it told me and I immediately declined...... I found a used headlight but its still around 400$. Does anyone know if the coding has to be done? Or would it be plug and play, because I can replace the headlight myself im pretty sure.
Or might just buy Euro lights idk...

If you have to buy new headlights I would get the euro ones in the classifieds, $800 and no amber! Then find a local guy to help you program for a small fee.
