Share Your Photos of High-Gloss Black Trim

Just ordered a 128i convertible, deep sea blue/boston oyster leather/black trim. Does anyone have pictures of their interior that has the high-gloss black trim (not anthracite)? Curious as to what it looks like in a real world application as they didn't have anything at my local dealers that had the shiny black trim in it.

Thanks,

Ryan

No pics but I have the black gloss and I think it looks great! I have all black interior and exterior. Its subtle and sporty, clean. To me wood belongs on a boat or car driven by a grandpa.

Glad you're a fan of the high-gloss black trim. I opted for the Oyster Boston

leather in with the back trim. If you get a chance, snap a photo or two with your phone and share that sick interior with us.

And so then high gloss black would belong on cheap stereo speakers or an aunt's jewelry box?

Hey int2str,

That's a nice wheel. Where did you get it? Part #?

I like the alcantara shifter boot. Nice touch.

All three items (Wheel, shifter boot, e-brake boot) are BMW Performance bought from Tischer:

Bingo. This ain't a hunting lodge. Leave the wood by the fireplace.

I disagree with that statement. I think it just depends what look you are going for. BMW used former yacht builders to craft their Rolls-Royce interiors since both yachts and Rolls-Royces use the same materials. The luxurious/exotic materials take a lot of skill to create and install.

For the 1-series, BMW didn't have to get that specialized with the high-gloss trim, since it's a very cheap product with little skill to install. I imagine they easily make 500% profit on the plastic trims vs. wood interiors.

Agree. I keep seeing "wood is for grandpa" and "glacier aluminum (or gloss black or whatever) looks cheap/is for kids" generalizations in these threads when it's really just different strokes and the look you're going for. I have AW with black leather and got grey poplar. It makes for a very nice and classy combo. I toyed with the idea of AW trim (which looks great in the catelogue), but in the end I went with the grey poplar. I did get a chuckle out of TheKingOfJericho's comment though. Guess I'll have to build a fireplace in my garage.

Wood should never be a component in the manufacture of a car unless you're stuck on Gilligan's Island.

Wood looks fantastic... in a Rolls Royce, high-end Benz or a Morgan. On our cars it just looks out of place. Our vehicles are pretty high tech and are composed of metal and plastics in every other aspect of the car - it seems odd to slap a little wood in there for effect. This is an opinion.

Wood looked fantastic in a lot of sports cars, Austin Haley's, jags , Aston martins ... Nothing wrong with wood trim. My 128 has the gloss black trim and I love it but the wood looks great also

Well those are older vehicles so it makes some sense that they would have wood. They don't even make Healeys anymore and I couldn't add wood trim to any of the sporty Astons. Jag still offers it (I saw piano black trim as the XK default) however that kind of plays in to my point. Jaguar hasn't been cutting edge or a tech leader in.... well, ever.

Well, I've got aluminium and am thinking of going gloss black. For those with the gloss, do you find it gets dirty easily, leaves finger prints, etc... ?

Yes.

I actually have a "Swiffer Duster" in my garage just for my car since every spec of dust is visible on the black trim. So every few days or so I give it a quick wipe-down.

Seems to me there would be a lot more grandpas signing on the dotted line for non sports 128's, grandmas too.

Grey Poplar. It's not your grandpa's wood.
