I had the e90 328i. And now have the 135i.
Two points - 1. The 1 series is more maneuverable and generally more "fun" if you enjoy tossing it around. Surprisingly though, the e90 although less maneuverable felt more balanced - but it could be because most of its life it had some fat 19"s on 2. The weekest link on the x28i drivetrain is the outdated GM built auto. If it had a good tranny I might have kept it but it drove me nuts. A 6MT is a must with either the 328 or 128 if you go that route. I have had lots of MT cars.... But I the auto in the x35i cars is pretty darn responsive.
