Convertible Fabric Protection

Hi all,

I just got my 135 today and I love it! I have been reading this site for a few weeks and everyone's advice has been great.

I was wondering what the best way to protect my fabric top would be? I have never had a convertible thus I am not sure how to maintain and protect it. I am parking in an uncovered spot, thus I am concerned about sun damage. I have the moonlit black top.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'll be interested to see what people have to say on this topic. I park my car inside my garage so I'm not as worried.

BTW, I have the same colour configuration as you. What's your interior choice?

As soon as I got my car, I sprayed on Ragg Top fabric protectant. Three coats. It is approved by Porsche. Water beads up and I hope dirt will rinse off. I use ragg top cleaner and a horse hair brush. First I vacumn, then wash and blot it dry with with P21s chamois. see properautocare.com

Definitely RaggTopp protectant for canvas (fabric) tops. Apply 3~4 times a year, depending on how often the top is washed.

A hose hair brush sounds like an interesting idea. Hadn't thought about that.

I used RaggTop on my E36 328 convertible. Worked great.

Congrats on the car. I have yet to see a moonlight top in person. Hopefully you can make it out to one of the BMW car club meets (I recommend the autocross).

Moonlight rocks. Definitely more interesting than just plain black.

It has a shimmer to it without making it look like a teenagers makeup if you know what I mean.

I ordered my convertible before they had even arrived in dealerships. The moonlight looked nice in pics but sometime the colours shown in pics do not match in real life. So I played it safe and went with black. From the sound of it moonlight would have been a good choice.

Yeah, it's a nice little difference from the straight black.

I ordered mine before the 135 verts hit the dealership and had never seen a moonlight black top but the guys at the 1 driving event held by BMW Canada were talking it up so I went for it sight unseen.

Warmtoes - I have the black leather interior with the gray wood. I would prefer the black finish instead of the gray but I didn't custom order the car.

I will get the Raggtop, thanks everyone.

Exactly - attractive but not pretentious and easily worth the $100 premium, IMHO.

We like the Raggtop Cleaner and 303 Fabric Guard for a quick and easy way to add some protection to your cloth top.

Cool, but I need an advice on how to stop the increasing tear of mine fabric top around the rear of the driver's side. Is their any Sealant, Gum or way to cover the opening as water is gradually seeping inside. the Fabric is still generally good. I was made to understand that this is a factory generated error on 128i Converts, made between 2008 t0 2010. Pls I need help. new Fabric top with its associated cost is heavy on the pocket within mine country.
