Problem with actuator on turbo

Have any of you guys had problems with this?

Mine has started to "tick".

Not so bad when you rev it, but when letting go of the throddle, it ticks all the way down to 600-700 rpm.

The BMW mechanic says the entire turbo has to go for a new one. But nothing wrong with turbo and performance, just the annoying sound from the actuator.

Any ideas of how to solve this problem, without replacing the turbo?

Good ole wastegate rattle. Welcome to the club.

You can try this, but I'd try to get free turbos out of it if you can. They are warrantied to 82,000 miles.

Will try that, thanks for the link

Mine is on 142000 KM, a bit more than the 82000 MILES unfortunately.

If you have a JB4 G5 ISO with latest firmware, you can try FUD98. Works well for me and many others.

Not the same, but similar. My rattle is very very minor and can only be heard up against a barrier. N54.

To my knowledge, wastegate rattle only occurs on twin-turbo (N54) motors. JB4 can be used to adjust it out, that's what I do. Before JB4, mine rattled like crazy.

Just to get it straight, because this is very new to me.. the JB4 G5 ISO is a software upgrade? Am I able to install this myself?

Had both vanos actuators replaced on my car in April. The actuators wear out also.
Car had a yellow engine icon and reduced power. After resart OK but that was the problem.

Does anyone have a picture of this JB4? And what exactly does it do to wastegate and actuator?

You can buy the actuators in loose weight? All I've heard is that you have to buy a new turbo to get it, which is overkill imo as the turbo runs perfectly.
No engine lamp and lack of power here.
