LSD question, am I crazy??

So I have an '08 128i. Mods are stated in my sig. I plan on keeping this car for a while. My last car was a '97 Jetta that I bought new at 19 years old and drove till I was 33, so i do mean a while. I haven't tracked the car yet but i will be on Oct. 1st. I can't believe that I won't enjoy it, so I got to thinking. I feel that I have made a mistake by buying the e92 rear sway bar. From everything I read, the bar is too stiff without an LSD. I actually can feel it in tight turns even in daily driving. So am I crazy to think about putting an LSD into a 128? Is there even an LSD for the 128?? I don't know if the ones for the 135 are compatible or not. I LOVE this car. I get very attached my cars. Thats why I think I might overdue it and spend money on something that wouldn't really be practical. The way I look at it I will most likely wait until the n20 is in the 1 series coupe till I buy a new car, or CPO. So thats a ways away. One thing I do have on my side is that I can do all the work on my car myself, so $1500-2000 doesn't really seam that bad if I enjoy it for a few year. Also I don't feel like my car is too slow, I don't wish I had bought the 135. Then again I may just be getting old, I still feel like my Ducati Monster is fast enough and it's only a 620. Oh yeah, the 128 is automatic ( I know thats sad).

Update: So after the my first track day I found out where the car needs the most improvement, the thing that connects the steering wheel to the seat. I found that my car was MUCH more capable than I am. The feel of it was spectacular, I feel that the setup I have is very balanced, not to much oversteer or understeer. Even as I was full throttle out of turns I did not feel any wheel slippage so I think that an LSD is not that important in the near future. I honestly think there isn't really enough power to need one at this point. I have decided to use that money towards several more track days and HPDE.

Why crazy? Sports coupes are supposed to have LSDs. And since you're planning to keep the car for years and years, you will get your money's worth.

Do it if you don't mind that cost. I know if it were that cheap for me i'd do it. Later down the road if you do decide to get rid of it, you can always sell it and swap pumpkins with somebody and get some of your $$ back. My vote is do it when you can. But first i'd recommend tracking it w/o it to see how much you really feel you need it. Maybe make it a winter project

I guess it IS all about traction. Traction in the corners and when wet/slippery/snow. IF you feel that you would really gain from an LSD... go for it. It is not gonna be cheap at around +$2K. You have a few things in your favor... that auto trans means your ring gear is a bolt in... so its way less labor for the install then a welded unit that the manuals have.

I would contact VAC Motorsports in PA or Harold in CA. Those two have the most experience in LSD installs - I am sure they must have done one already for a 128i. Please post and keep us updated.

Thanks for the suggestions. Unfortunately when I called over to VAC they said that the 135 one was not compatible. No one in the market makes an LSD for n/a 1's or 3's. Oh well, guess the Stones were right " You can't always get what you want."

the aftermarket Diffs for auto 135i's i think work in 128i manual- look at wavetrac part number for 128i
Not sure about Auto 128i

Qualife makes 128i stuff and so does Wavetrac
i think Wavetrac is the cheapest LSD

e90 N52 guys also swapped other e90 diffs, but its not a real diff...
