air conditioner goes on automatically

Hi all

I noticed today that the air conditioner, being off, turns on automatically!... it never happened before.

Any ideas?

The car is a 135i N55 DCT.

Thanks

You have automatic climate control. You dial in the temperature, digitally, and the climate control takes over mixing warm and conditioned air to achieve the temperature you want.

I actually prefer my Mercedes that doesn't have automatic climate control, an $850 option. You can manually switch on/off the A/C.

nop, the automatic AC does what you state when you turn it on, if not it shouldnt.
Its like saying that you have the automatic rain wiper function but that it starts when its off...

If you put it on defrost, it will come on automatically when in auto.

I think there is something in the I-Drive or other menus on this; my 2 1-Series do the same thing, but I think you can disable it. Need to check.

Nope your analogy is faulty. If you engage the rain sensor on the stalk, they wipe when it rains. You do know you have to engage any system for it to work don't you.

Read the following to understand Automatic Climate Control. As I said, the A/C and engine heat are used in a very sophisticated way to condition the air in the vehicle:

Mine always turns on if you hit the "auto" button, even if you have it set to maximum heat. I always manually turn it off if not needed.

I believe this is a factory setting, as I saw a defeat of this feature listed as an option by someone advertizing coding services.

This is a big reason I never use the "Auto" setting.

I use it as a starting point at times, as it can be faster to just hit auto and then turn the AC off and fine tune from there than to change 3 or 4 settings.

Sometimes, my wife fiddles with the controls when I am not looking. She is very stealthy.

Do you drive with a co-pilot?
