Stock pad issue

Anyone had any issues with the stock brake pads? I took the car out to autox in 67 degree weather today. 23 Second course, 6 passes and the rear pads started coming apart and scratched the rotors pretty good.

Coming apart? As in the pad material broke off from the backing plate? Any pics?

DSC on or off?

This may be a stupid question - but I realized real quick when I ran the Stelvio Pass back in August. With very tight hairpins, the DSC will start to smoke your rear brakes - if not turned off...

Fortunately - I noticed it after only 8 -10 of the 43 hairpins on the North Side.

On a similar thread - what pads are everyone using for Auto X??

All traction control was turned off.

The pad crumbled and pieces broke off getting stuck between the pad and the rotor scratching the rotor. No pics, the car is now at the dealership. I should have taken some pics.

They were stock pads. The stock BMW pad has always done the best job for autox over the years due to 60 second runs with 10 minutes between runs never building enough heat to use a track type pad. The difference with this car is rotors be cross drilled and past m3's I have owned not having those, so it may be time to move to a track pad.

Given your qualifications.. No doubt you had traction control off.. Just always try to start with the easy answers first..

Could definitely be some attribution to the the cross drilling.. But I would suspect more likely you got a bad set of pads, especially if you normally run OEM Pads with good results.

Thanks for the info on the OEM Pads.. Good to know.

I've had some strange scoring of the rotors that I suspect is due to the uneven heat distribution in the rotor when the brakes are being used aggressively.

Though my rear rotors are ok, the fronts have a 3/8" wide scored area that runs around both front rotors approx. 1/4" inside the outer edge.

Well, I just wonder about running the stock pads vs upgrading. Hopefully some more posters that had tracked or autocrossed the car will give a report on the stuck pods.
