My production date was 02/11 and I got the letter.

Engine may have been assembled earlier.

You wouldn't have because the actual recall isn't out yet. They don't have parts yet so they can't do the recall. I don't know why people don't get this.

ever heard of planning to make a plan in the department of redundancy Dept..
No we don't get why I/we have a letter(or yet gotten) stating recall notice but BMW says I don't have a recall according to the recall link.

We dont have a recall but we do and when all the parts are ready we then have a recall. BMW told us we have a recall and standby for action. When BMW told you they will recall your car... their fingers crossed when they said it so it doesn't count?

Look my letter states in clear language my car has a recall and I'll be contacted when the parts are in. Not the other way around when the part gets here we'll recall. I'm sticking up for us dummies here please forgive my arrogance.

I'm not arguing with whether or not there is a recall. I'm saying they don't have parts so they are not yet performing the recall. People keep going to their dealer asking them to do a recall that can't yet be done.

Still no parts too. I just wonder how long much longer it will be before the parts start hitting the dealers shelves.

Probably until a few more n55's grenade in traffic... I sense the BMW Actuaries are creating projections of cost vs. resales vs. risk of lawsuits vs. deaths vs...

Wouldn't it be grand if there was a VIN range for the 135 and 128 models affected....

Hmm, now when I type in my VIN at the BMWUSA site for recalls, I get this message:

Recall information is not available at this time. Please try again later, or contact BMW Customer Relations and Services at 1-800-831-1117.

And I got the same message yesterday as well... Something getting updated maybe?

I also check this website frequently and have been getting the same message for several days. It must be that like you said, they're updating. I wouldn't be surprised if very shortly the vanos bolts recall notifications start appearing.

BMW seems to be handling this on an ad hoc level. Recently a BMW rep confirmed to me that no formal recall had been issued yet, and he didn't know when it would be. Website updating is not the issue.

How can that be when I'm looking at a letter dated June 2014 that says "IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL, Recall Campaign no. 14V-176: VANOS Assembly Bolts"?

My car was built in April/May 2012, so I'm well outside of the January 2010-August 2011 manufacture dates.

Whew.

Yes, they issued a PR release and sent a notification letter to NHTSA that there was going to be a recall, over 2 months ago. Yes, some people have gotten letters (that say not to expect anything yet).

But there still is no official recall, either on the NHTSA website or the BMW website.

Yes, this is bizarre. From the April NHTSA letter:

"BMW expects to begin dealer notification in April 2014 and complete dealer notification in May 2014. BMW expects to begin
owner notification in May 2014 and complete owner notification in June 2014."

Yeah, right.

As I said before, I got an official recall letter from BMWNA and I believe it over what some guy on a forum says. I talked to my service advisor at my dealer last week and he said "yes, there is an official recall and we're just waiting on the parts."

Could you check your VIN on the BMW website and car year/model on the NHTSA website, and report back what luck you have?

I don't need to check again… I don't need to report back. I Got an OFFICIAL RECALL letter. Done!
