I can drive a manual, but if they want to sell all the units they bring to the States, they'll have to offer more than one transmission

I agree. I'm fine with that. Perhaps that's why they keep drilling this "thrill of driving" theme. Meaning you will have to row your own gears. If it is true, a 1M just became slightly easier to get. I don't have anything against DCT's. I just want a MT.

Setting aside all issues concerning who saw it first, this car looks like it has the potential to be utterly amazing. I went to my local BMW dealership and had an opportunity to drive a 135i/DCT and BMW performance modified 335i sedan with the 6 speed transmission. I was amazed how the engine in both cars (both were 2011 models w/ N55) pulled from any speed/any gear combination. The form and refinement of the interiors was a order of magnitude above any other car I have been in. The size of the 135i is perfect for me, and reminds me of my E 30 325 sedan that I drove when I was stationed in Germany.

Flash forward to the 1M Coupe: more power and better handling are just what the 1er needs to truly become a masterpiece, IMHO. Again, I haven't driven a car lately that I didn't think could use an extra 50-100 HP to improve the dynamics of the car. I am seriously considering this car as my next vehicle, and the timeline for introduction coincides with my timeline to replace my current car. I can't wait for more details, and chance to drive the 1M coupe.

As added to the first post:

Some more details per bimmerfile.com:
  • The color is Valencia Orange Metallic, a new color exclusive to the 1M
  • The 1M will be manual transmission only
  • Those are the M3 Competition Package wheels
  • The front air intake is pretty similar to the M3's, but even more pronounced
  • The side skirts are also much like the M3's in shape
  • The side vents will be 'outrageous' compared to the other M cars
  • Some minor detail in the revealed area of the M1 will be changed. Bimmerfile suggests it's related to the headlights.
  • The rear valance will have vents above the exhaust that protrude out and are angled slightly inward (see here, courtesy of bimmerfile)
  • There's an oil-cooler in-front of the front left wheel (see here)
  • The rear-view mirrors will look very familiar to E9X M3 owners

Best regards,
south

EVERYONE needs to hear this interview. I don't know how you can't get excited by Dr. Segler's words.

I wouldn't mind having a manual gearbox. It will be a blast in this little car. I'm also surprised that the DCT will not be available. It's obvious they want to make this car more exclusive and avoid cost. However, I do feel this is going to kill the sales figures if they were hoping for high volume. For a lot of people on this forum the DCT option was a deal breaker.

I mentioned that back then in May. Check my post # 80: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...39#post7290539

They will only produce 2,500 cars, and they will build them in Leipzig.

I have been trying to stay out of the discussion as much as possible, but I thought I would note that the M3 arms have nothing to do with needing wider fenders. I have those exact same arms on my 135i. The wider fenders should allow for M3 wheel offsets.

If that's really the case my deposit had become an investment. As for the gearbox is concerned - I would have loved to have DCT to squeeze out those tenths and for my wife to be able to drive the car for convenience sake. I couldn't see why they would go through that much marketing to sell 2500 cars especially for an outgoing model.

That's what i was thinking. I see a lot of people with M3 arms, and they have the same tracks, and fenders.

Will it be available without the nav-unit? Less clutter, less tech wanted here.

Nothing but my car would already be more powerful then an M1 so other then wider fenders, nicer exhaust, and front end the car is pointless. It should have its own dedicated motor like everyother M car.

But doesn't the N54 have the HPFP issue?
