I think i've opened my sunroof twice..maybe.. I hate it. More weight up top, ugly roof, less headroom. Whole bunch of fail.

I wish I didn't have one. Being 6'3" my head constantly hit the roof, it's an even tighter squeeze with a helmet on. It's an annoyance but I live my car and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Jargon used for "no sunroof" is called, "slick top."

I guess it is a matter of preference. I love my sunroof and can't imagine the car without it.

I wish I didn't have a sunroof. Used it maybe once or twice but there is noticeable wind noise :/

I have the same, but it's the Sixth BMW I've owned... Does that make mine an "is" as well?

I don't track my car, and the weather out here is beautiful, so I enjoy driving with all the windows down and the sunroof open. I enjoy having the extra light inside the car. Mine is almost always open (the blind at least).

If I were truly concerned about performance, the weight would be my only problem, but I am just enjoying the drive every day.

Since I AM a GT car driver who takes a race track to work every day which results in me having to have my tires replaced every 50km the added weight of a sun roof really bothers me. that's why i compensate by eating less and filling my tires with Hydrogen, because it's lighter than Helium...

Any causal driver who says that they can “feel” the reduced rigidity of their car due to the addition of a sunroof needs to have their heads examined.
And if it really bothers you go out and install a roll cage.
But might I suggest a better solution, take the money for said roll cage, give me 75% of it. I’ll take you outside kick you square in the nuts and you can call it even.
God…..”sun roof reduces bla bla blab la” really?

well think about it?
Do you think the absence of 2sqft of very thin metal is really a major issue to really worry about it?
Let alone to go out of your way to find a car without it?
I mean really!

And the "added weight" ....really you are worried about added weight of a moon roof?
Do some math and invest in low weight rims and tires if weight worries you!
Do you know how much energy is used up by your engine to get that chunky run flat tire to spin from 0rpm to say 60rpm? And while you are at it rip out that silly AC pump as well!
Come on!

I dare any SUNDAY road warrior on race tires on a dry race track with race suspension to tell the difference between a car with a sunroof vs one without. I think most professionals would also have a hard time telling the difference.
And even if you were a true Ricky Racer type…..who cares about a sun roof…you would have installed a roll cage and that does a heck of a job reducing overall body flex. But even then your "average" guy/gal...wont' have a clue other than they can say "it makes the car more rigid" at which point you should ask them about the weight that was added to the car just so you can see their heads explode!

Now if your concern is leaks then yeah ok….then I can see issues with sunroofs? But even those are not major.
Keep it clean, have her tubes blown out once a year and grease the skids and all will be well.
But if what’s grinding your gears is something as trivial as “weight” or “regigity” on a modern car…come on…..really? Now convertible Vs. hard top that’s another issue. That argument has some very serious grounds for an argument.

I mean I love the STI guys when they yap yap yap nonstop about this silly stuff…”Oh our car doesn’t come with sun roofs because well you see it’s like rigidity and weight…”

Reminds me of that movie, Idiocracy when they were talking about “electrolytes”

Grassroots motorsports did a scientific study of a car with and without a sunroof on an autox course. The sunroof's weight, especially so high above the CofG is significant in terms of handling.

computer simulation or driver?
heck yeah...simulation on the perfect day with the perfect tire on the perfect surface SURE!
In reality? Let's just say solar flares have more of an effect on that outcome over 10 laps.
Or did they drive it around with the sun roof open?

I don't remember the exact details, this was years ago, but I believe their test car was a CRX or something like that, one with and one without a sunroof, identically prepped, driven by two multi-time nationals winners.

I wouldn't have believed it until I saw the results from two top-notch drivers.

I already eliminated my stock wheels and tires as well to save 40.5lbs of unsprung weight.

Shah269, just because you personally can't feel the difference doesn't mean the rest of us are that disconnected. Happy the sunroof works for you.

And could you by chance post a link to this grassroots motorsports so called study ? Because if you can't the results are invalid.
