For those who have done ED..
What documents were needed to register your car!? This is getting ridiculous as I\'ve spoken to 4 DMV workers and received 4 different stories.
I bought the car through dbtheo, a forum member and CA in Ohio (great guy!) and I will be doing PCD soon, and taking car back to my home on Florida. I have an Ohio state title. I figured all I\'d need to register was title, and proof of Florida insurance! I\'ve been told I need to contact Florida vehicle operations bureau since it was built in Europe, register and authenticate VIN since it reaches the US as \"used\" since I drove it in Europe, then there\'s this other form to get title switched to Florida title then I have to register after that form has been accepted by DMV! I was just wondering if anyone had all these problems- I have to believe that the people I\'ve spoken too have no clue what in saying when I talk about the process I\'ve done to get the car. Any insight!? |

You're over thinking it. According to the official paperwork during ED and then registering in USA, nothing ever happened in Europe. The people at DMV are probably just not educated enough to answer your questions. My dealer took care of everything. I even did ED and Performance Delivery.
I brought my passport to Germany, that was it. In the end I do have some cool booklet/documentation from its time in Germany that I keep in my glove box just for show.

Thanks- I figured it is the DMV employees who are throwing me off. Maybe it'd be best to show up with title and insurance and ask what I gotta do- leaving out all the ED info and what not.
Out of curiosity when did you finalize the process- when you set up your PCD? I assume you had plates when you went to spartanburg correct? |

When I buy a new car in NJ I never have to visit the DMV. I think it had temps on it when I picked it up in Spartanburg and I just drove it up and picked up my real plates at the purchase dealer a little while later.

Ahh I see. My dealer is in Ohio not Florida which may be the reason for some of the complications I'm experiencing. I doubt it will be a problem though just confusing (this is my first ever car purchase!)

DBTHEO should have all of the info you need for any state!!! It is the same as buying the car locally....You just pick the delivery site....BMW should do the rest....Slam dunk

Just got an email from him. Thanks for the help guys- seems the DMV isn't clear on how this works! I think I just overloaded them with the info about ED (Doh!)

Yes sales tax was included in car price I paid..
However I paid a lower % of sales tax than Florida charges- I was under the impression I might have to pay the dividen between the taxes of Ohio state (Akron) and Pinellas county.. I think it's about a 0.05% difference though. |

Don't even mention ED to the DV - they are all clueless. They wull automatically think grey import and start the red tape thing. Just show them your ohio title and go from there. You probably will have to pay FL sale tax.

Bring your Zulassungsbescheinigung to the registry and tell them that you want to transfer the plates.
