What Part is This? Where does it go?

Does this look familiar? If so, can someone guide me as to its location?

2012 135i coupe.

thanks,

It acts as a cover over the OEM amplifier that's located behind the left rear wheel arch in the trunk. It's probably not necessary to reinstall unless you plan on putting something real heavy (like a block of lead) in the little nook in the truck behind the left wheel.

If you want to put it back in its place, you need to remove the left side trunk liner. It takes about 10 minutes. 1) push the back seats forward 2) remove the center trunk liner 3) pull off the trunk seal/gasket from the left front corner, down the left side and over to the right past the plastic panel in the rear of the trunk 4) remove the two philips head screw and two push pins that hold the plastic panel in place 5) pull the plastic panel up from the bottom pulling toward the front of the car (it will pop out) 6) locate and remove the three push pins that hold the left trunk liner to the chassis 7) pull the bottom of the liner toward the center of the car and remove it from the trunk 8) install the part in question.

The nipple looking thing plugs into the side of the chassis and the groove slips over the seam in the sheet metal that runs from the rear of the trunk to the front.

Follow the directions in reverse to put the car back together. You may need to get in the back seat and pull out the left side bolster (which sits directly under the seat belt) in order to get the trunk liner in its proper place. Just pull the bolster from the top. It will pop right out and you can snap it back in place once the liner is reinstalled.
