You think the E85 had any impact on the injector failure?

That sucks that a leaking injector would cause this. Especially with no indication of anything being wrong until after the Bering fails.

Wow... That really sucks! Never heard of this happening to an engine just because of a injector. I would be flipping out.. Wish I lived closer would love to help out with the build.

Thxs droptop, luckily I have a buddy that's a big mustang nut and he's rebuilt a dozen engines. Actually it's not that bad once you get it out of the car. And I'm in no hurry, that helps..

Is it just me or am I seeing more rod knocking issues lately?
I'm sure thousands of n54 had leaky injectors but not all had their engines messed up. Did you leave yours leaking for a while?? Good lock

Gasoline breaks down oils viscosity and can lead to engine damage. I've seen it a dozen or so times on small block Chevy engines where the float gets stuck, dumping fuel into the crank case. Same thing can happen to an injector. Good luck with the build. Keep,us posted !!!

Hindsight, one time I turned the car off in the garage and was messing around with something and the car made a funny noise, almost like a fart sneaking out! I just blew it off thinking it was the HPFP bleeding off the fuel but it was probably the injector. Get Blackstone oil reports on your FBO car! It might save you 7k in rebuild cost.

I heard an engine knock about 10 minutes after I hit a curb (on accident). Stupid I know, I paid for it, my ADD kicked in and I was too busy staring at an M3 parked across the parking lot. I only started ragging on my car (not all the time) since my last carbon blasting which was in October 14. All I have is a BMW PPK and I'm very compliant with service. Should I be worried?

I'm pretty sure you have a leaky injector. That's the #1 symptom. A faulty injector might cause misfires but a leaky one will leak overnight or whenever the car sits. You should get that checked out cuz apparently something as simple as that can cause a rod knock

So I switched from E60-E70 (which I've been running for months) back to straight 93 for a few days and the long cranks in the morning were totally eliminated, fired right up. Just finished a tank of ~E35 and the morning starts had the slightest hesitation, but not very noticeable really. I will run another tank of ~E35 and then try E60 again too see what happens.
However, the squeaky fart sound that I hear when I shut down the car is very noticeable and consistent. Sounds like something is squeaking to a stop? HPFP? I dunno.. fuel pressures seem OK in logs. When I have some help I'm going to try to identify where the sounds is coming from, but if anyone has any thoughts I'm all ears. Also curious to hear what's up with OP's car? |

Researching rod and bearing options as well as machine shops. ARB in Houston has a good rep but getting a straight answer to my questions is another story. There are no real bearing options for the con rods so I'm thinking of changing them to a different specs.

Well, a new crank, bearings, rods, and Pistons will be close to $3500. Then you have everything else, head worked over, new injectors, HPFP, oil pump?, cam bearings, nuts, bolts, gaskets, valve cover, ect., will be another 2500-3000. Junk yard motor will cost around 4k but you don't know what your getting.

You can build it for around 3k or less using stock parts and reusing your rods, ect.
This will be my only and last n54 build. My next car project will be a Ford or Chevy!
