Heh, would have definitely considered a 130i if they had sold them in the states.

honestly, as much as you need for a 100% daily drive. more than, even.

not in this car, no. Don't worry, it's definitely going to happen, just a few hiccups, and i decided it's better off being as extreme as possible in a fresh shell lol. I'd like it to be done by late 2017 at this stage (no, really).

yeah like a 128i with the 3stage+tune, but i think slightly lighter, and even uglier (to most people), therefore slower looking :P. Plus, who ever expects a modern hatch to be rwd haha. keeps up with a 100% stock 135 at least until things get too fast.

Yeah TBH at times I'm happy with an 'underpowered' car as a daily, as I'm practically in autopilot mode driving for economy not for enjoyment....

I've been on a cruise with a 130i and it was no slouch wasn't like he was holding me up much in the twisties (that was years ago when i only had 240 rwkw and no sussy mods though)

To the guy who said he met people who laughed at the 1 series - there's really no reason to be bothered by those folks. Have you heard of hanlon's razor? They're probably trying to take a jab at you because they're ignorant and stupid - not because they're malicious.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hanlon%27s_razor

Anyways, the E82 N54 has its limitations (mostly that the wheel wells don't fit rubber big enough to deal with N54 E9Xs) but it's certainly not a stupid fast car. No LSD, unreliable, heavy, not that pretty, understeer problems.

Don't get me wrong, I love the 1. However, as much as people underestimate it, I feel like it's also a very over-estimated car as well.

Take pity on people with closed minds. Yes, these are quick cars, but they're still consumer cars at the end of the day.

A guy wanted to race me in his pickup truck. Granted it had a piggyback ECU and was pretty good on performance for a pickup, but...
Then he started asking about the car and was surprised to learn that it is RWD. Then he was surprised to learn it had a turbo. Then he was REALLY surprised to learn it is a 6-cyl. He assumed of course since it is small and has a turbo that it must be a 4-banger.

So looking at it the natural assumptions are: FWD, 4-cyl, maybe turbo.

I would not accept his offer to race, because roads were wet and we were both at least two beers in, but I would love to have shown him just what my "little" (tuned turbo RWD I-6) rocket could do.

Wasn't going to but, lacking my sensibilities just now:

I'm not quite clear on how "Hanlon's Razor" applies here, sick and tired of people trying to seem "smart" on the internet.

Also the post came across as insecure over how satisfied 1er owners (all varieties) are with their cars here and just being a massive debbie downer. If you don't look back at the car when you walk away after parking, you're driving the wrong damn car.

135i can be quite underwhelming as a stock car. It needs suspension and tire upgrades to be transformed into a much better drivers car.

I'm surprised to see any owner on the forum who feels like talking it down. Unless you drive a Porsche GT3, or some high-end performance car, I think the criticism is misguided and a bit pointless really.
In my view, a nicely tuned 135i is an absolute weapon on the track or on the road.

that's why I fixed those things (minus reliability, looks subjective)

Agree 100%. I look back at least twice after I park it, and it looks badass every single time!

Be a man and take it to the track... you need to get to a point in life where just knowing that you can is enough. Let the plebs that only drive their cars on the street that don't know crap about cars stay dumb. Get out on your local road course or local drag strip and play cat and mouse with people that know what they are doing.

If he didn't think it was RWD, he probably doesn't even know what BMWs really are. So, you should just chalk it up to sheer ignorance that this guy has no idea what any BMW is capable of

Sorry, I mis-phrased it. The Hanlon's razor bit is directed towards the member (PopsnBurbles) who posted about his experiences "losing" to other cars. The member commented that some of the other drivers made direct stabs at his slow car and such. No E82 owner should take anything other ignorant drivers say personally. The car's looks make it something that's easily picked on. Let the engine do the talking.

The 1 has its merits, but you cannot deny the faults of the car. I can see you made a lot of performance mods - mods that would just as much benefit a E9X N54 as your E82. The only difference is that you would have a larger aftermarket segment for any body kits, wheels, parts, etc. You'd go just as fast too - if not faster with the wider rubber - but your car would just be a bit bigger.

The 135 is cool for a daily beater. Its fun and can be quick, plus some luxury. But go on any car forum and most of their owners rant and rave at how cool their car is but nobody understands it. Im a car guy, I appreciate all cars regardless of who makes them. If there is something cool about the car, I like it.
