How bad is it? (tire/wheel damage question)

Please look at the attached pics and tell me if this is a critical repair or can I take my time? It held air overnight.

Making a right turn ino work and another car swerved as I was turning; I had to clip the corner with my rear right wheel to avoid hitting the other car.

What looks to be missing from the tire is the little ridge - like a part of that peeled off.

Guess I'm off to post in the wanted section for a wheel... blah.

Eh - I've had worse. Use these as winter wheels and get nicer wheels for summer. You can also get a repair kit - I think from Barvarian Autosport - that works remarkably well. I puttyed and repainted 2 of my OEMs and you'd have look pretty hard to see where. When the wheels are dirty (most of the time) you can't tell at all.

Just had almost exactly the same damage. Likely not an issue for normal (non-track) driving. Moblie wheel repair type services should be able to fix the wheel for about $100-150

Doesn't look too bad. I'm sure your wheel is fine since it looks like it scraped the curb rather than sliding directly into it and throwing off your alignment or cracking the wheel. You said it held air over night, what about in the morning? I doubt it'll be leaking at all and it looks like its purely cosmetic.

That's what I'm hoping. I have been thinking about doing a wheel change at some point. It's 2PM and still no error messages or leakage.

I know how I am - I won't rest until the wheel is replaced - hoping I'll find a used one that will keep me whole till I get a new set.

That sucks. Curbed mine some months ago but not as bad as that. There is a decent amount of aluminium and rubber missing. Check for vibration while driving, you might need a rebalance. Likely not but maybe.

A mean gash but purely cosmetic. Had a event like that, actually, a bit deeper when my wife backed our 4 hour old car into a tall granite curb after we picked it up in Munich. Drove it for a week, autobahn speeds, curvey roads, no problem. Fortunetly, the euro delivery insurance is 100% and when we picked the car up at the Performance Center; new wheel and tire. I was pleased. You can drive it as long as you can stand it. Oh, and don't comment on letting a wife drive your 135; it's her M3 that we track and she lets me drive it.

I haven't tried it. I'm sure there is some skill involved, but it definitely looks doable. The OP's curb rash is slightly worse than that pictured in the article.

If you run winter wheels, I would definitely try to repair my own wheel over the winter before buying a new one.

Why not just make a claim with your insurance company? I think that should be a comp claim - no fault and it can't go against you. (not unless you have had a lot of claims in the last year or so!). I would ask your agent.

That can be fixed no problem. Contact a local wheel repair specialist.

You can do this yourself - follow the directions above, alternatives are Liquid Steel as a filler and Dupli-Color General Motors / Isuzu Scratch Fix 2in1 Touch-Up Paint
Galaxy Silver Metallic
Color Code 12
1/2 oz. Tube
Dupli-Color® Brand
Item# NGGM501

Permatex 25909 Liquid Metal Filler, 3.5 oz.

This paint is an exact color match for the 135 sport rims.

The liquid metal filler goes on easy, and you can use a dremel style rotary tool for the fine sanding.

Good luck!

I am going to make a mold of a 'good' arc of the wheel using the modeling clay my daughter uses - bake it and it hardens to a firm resin. I'll then repair the damage using the mold to press the filler into the correct shape. Hopefully it won't stick to the mold... maybe a little PAM?. A pass or 2 with the Dremel and some fine grit paper should be the right shape. Few coats of paint and sanding should be GTG then, for the time being.

If it's still available the Barvarian Autosport kit has the exact BMW OEM paint match.

Yes they do, but the Duplicolor is easier to get at any local auto parts store, and the Galaxy Aluminum is a perfect match. It's nice to have options.
